CT 70 motor good starter?

Well, I pretty much have my 110 finished, so I'm going to start on a 10" bike now.
I have a CT 70 bottom end sitting here, not sure the year, but it's a manual clutch.
What all is available, or should I ditch it, and start all over.
Not sure on frame choice yet, but is this the same bolt pattern as the 50 based motors. Kinda looking at a BBR frame, or maybe the new pitster bike coming out.

The CT70H (manual clutch) motors were sold in 1970 and 1971 I believe. If you post the engine number (on the left above the footpeg mount) I can get the exact year. If all the speeds are good and the clutch is good, I would use it. The bolt pattern is the same and will fit almost all Honda 4 stroke 50-70cc frames. Keep the frame Honda or BBR.

To add to what qwokie said, the CT70HK1 model was also manufactured in '72-'73. The engine serial # for '70-'71 was CT70HE-100001~ and for the '72-'73 models the engine serial # was CT70HE-2000001~. The engine is a 6V points-type ignition, and should bolt into any XR/CRF50-type frame with no problems at all. Any big bore kits you consider for the top end should be ones for a short rod engine, as the following list from DRATV shows which are the short rod engines Honda made:

Z50'S 68 TO 81

C70 PASSPORTS 80 TO 81

ALL CL/SL/XL/ATC/TRX70'S

CT70'S 69 TO 81

OK, CT70HE 216638.

This thing looks alittle rough, I've got to tear the bottom end apart, and see if the gears have any surface rust on them. The cylinder is here, but head is gone, ingition cover is missing, stator is rusted, and looks like it has sat outside. Hmm, I bought this from a "buddy" and he only charged my $150. LOL.. Guess I'll check out what he's selling me alot better next time.

I was being sarcastic, LOL.. Yeah, I asked him for my money back, but you know how that goes ("oh my wife has spent it on the christmas, blah blah) so I guess I'm stuck with it. I just hope the internals are find.

Not sure if it's a 4-speed. Any info is appreciated.

my friend has a old 70 that is a manual and i belive a 4 speed. Its a 1970's bike but I forgot the exact model. SL70 maybe, it has big wheels but is a 50 based engine. He wants me to take the bike off his hands just not sure what I will do with it if I take it. I already have too many bikes as it is.

I'll take it off your hands if you have too many bikes... I only have two. To identify four speeds, look at the clutch cover. If it has a removable chrome and a lever to the right(front of the engine whatever) of it then it's a manual four speed. Further must be done to find out if it's a 1 down 3 up or a 4 down. Find out what model it is yada yada yada... If it's a auto-clutch, then it will just have one solitary adjusting bolt and a jam nut with a 14mm head.

All stock manuals anyway. As dirtbkr188 pointed out.

If you were my buddy, and I had that boat anchor hanging around, I would have given to you for xmas. Should be a highly educational and hopefully fun build for you. Thank god you have info resources.
