ct70 12v to 6v conversion Questions ???

I have a motor from a 92 ct70 that I am building right now and I just put a deposit down on a 79 ct70 that I will be picking up next week. Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do to make this setup work. I have an idea but I don't want to order the wrong parts and find out later. The bike is complete with all blinkers and lights so I know I will probably have to change bulbs and the battery and all but I was looking more down the line of adapting the wiring harness from the bike to the motor and cdi. I have a coil and cdi from a crf50 build I did in the past, this will work on this motor wont it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried looking for some threads about this but I couldn't find any. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Thanks in advance.

Check this thread: 12 Volt CT70 using a Trailbikes wire harness. ...
The CRF50 coil will work but the spark plug lead will be a little short for the normal mounting location. The CDI box will work also.

thanks a lot. Good thread, very helpful. I can't believe I missed that. I think I may do the exact same thing. Seems like the best thing to do and I will have a brand new electrical system when done.

Re: ct70 12v cdi engine in non cdi 6v bike Questions

ok so I have the "new" bike in my posession now and just got it on the road today. I want to try to get the cdi motor built and together this weekend and put it in next week if I get a clutch. I saw this on dratv and wondered if this would work for the build IGNITION_CIRCUIT FOR_MOST_CDI TYPE_HONDA_STYLE ENGINES (with_no_battery) (95D). Or this one http://dratv.com/ctsubcdiwiha.html. If I bought one of these and replaced all of the other components like bulbs and flashers ect and got a cdi unit. to 12v would I be ok? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I would like to order this asap and I want to know if it is going to work. Thanks .

You will still need to address the battery issue. If it's gonna be for the street, you will need a battery backup in case your motor stalls to pass state inspection. You will need a 12V battery (if you're converting everything else to 12V) and a regulator rectifier wired in to charge the battery and keep your bulbs from popping.

yes I planned on having a battery. I was going to order one from dratv. Will the parts I listed in the previous post work?

Either of those should work. If you get the second one, you'll just have to buy the CDI box that fits that plug. If you get the first one, you'll have to tap into your stock harness somewhere for the lighting/charging.

would it be necessary to install super coil if I am running a daytona 119 kit with stock flywheel or could I just use a normal coil?

Unless it affects how you plan to wire it, I'd see how it runs with a stock coil. I'd be surprised if the stock one wouldn't fire it. You can always upgrade the coil later.
