| CT70 with CRF50 motor? Easy or not??
OK, I got an AHP motor for my CRF50 and have a perfectly good 88cc honda motor and a decent CT70 rolling chassis and was wondering what all is involved in putting that motor in there. Here are some things I know might be a problem: 1. CT70 has points ingition, CRF50 doesn't. Can I just use the whole electrical system from a CRF50 to convert it? 2. CT70 has lights, CRF50 doesn't. I'm assuming I just wire then in somehow? |

you'd need to wire up a stator for your crf50 motor.....then i think you'd be ok.....you'd also need the wiring harness off of the 50....and the cdi box and coil i believe??.....that ct70, is probably also 6v...someone else might have more input on that, but i think you can run a crf50 style ignition 12v and use a 6v lighting system.....

I did this to mine a few months ago and its pretty straight forward but I have got a local dealer who sells the conversion kit, this includes a link harness that you wire to your ct loom but it also has included a conection for the cdi,the link harness is about £12 then you need the cdi £30,or you could just swop the loom for a 12 volt one,if you want I have some pics of the link loom but dont know how to post so would have to mail them to you cheers matt also you would need a stator plate for your crf engine most 12 volt ones go on Last edited by DAX MATT; 11-24-2005 at 02:28 PM. |

2. You can get a stator wound for lighting from Ricky's Stators, to run lights on the CT, but I don't think you can use the 6V wiring or bulbs, that would be too flimsy and burn right out. You'll need to use 12V bulbs and make your own wiring harness for the lights. | |

Thats true you do have to change the bulbs to 12 volt ones,I have run my tacky 125 for the last 3 months on the converted 6 volt loom with no problems, but If I was to fit a 12 volt engine again to a 6 volt bike I would just rip out the old loom and fit a full 12 volt one from a dax its a lot easier and a lot neater job when done
