ct70 engine in a crf????big bore kits?

well, i came here thinking as some of you guys might have both a crf and a ct70. i was wondering if a ct70 engine will fit on a stock crf frame? it looks like it would, but hell im not positive and dont want to go spend hundred or so dollars on an engine i cant use.

also, do the big bore kit made for a crf work on this engine, like a kitaco 88cc kit and what not?

thnx a bunch everyone.

ct bolt right into crf frame? yes, right in. as far as big bore kits, you would have to buy one for the older 6 volt points type ignition motors. the newer crf and xr 50s are 12 volt cdi. the other thing you can do, what is what i did is get the ct70 engine tear it down and inspect for worn or broken items/parts and when you put it back together buy a crf crank, ignition, and cylinder head. that way you can have a better and easier selection of big bore kits as well as having a better ignition type.

so ur saying swapping all the 12v stuff into 6v cases is as easy as swapping it out?

well, the guy im gonna buy it from has a 50 head and cyliner on it already, so all i would need is new crank and ignition? i might as well go and replace the main bearings and seal kit at the same time then.

After you notch out the side case to make room for the CRF pulser, add the CRF crank, electricals, and shift shaft (it is 3/8" longer, as is the CRF crank, on the left side), and you can use any aftermarket bbk made for a CRF/XR engine. If you choose to use a HD oil pump, you have to use one made specifically for the older Z engine, the driveshaft end is different than the newer CRF ones.

There is another option for you on this engine. You can purchase a 6v cdi system that will not require you to mod the cases and switch out the electics. Then you only need a cdi swap and some wiring know-how.

I will make one suggestion though...if you are buying an engine, and having to rip it apart to install a new crank, and purchase a 12v pickup, and modify the cases, I think you would be better served finding something else. By the time you do all that, it's going to cost you the better part of $100 and your time and effort. For a little more you can get one ready to mount in and go.

well guy, i was looking on ebay and found this. its like a premade puyt together conversion kit, it said i have to shave the inside of my cases slighty, and it comes with cdi, new stator, and a crank extension so there wouldnt be a need to slit the cases and stuff. it also comes with a black case cover. check it out and tell me what you guys think.
