CT70 model question

I just picked up a CT70 to restore over the winter. I see a lot of people referring to their bikes as certain models. K, KO, K1 etc. What does that mean? Something about what year it is, and if it is auto or manual. The one I just got was built 6/70, It is a 3 speed auto. Only says Honda, in big letters, doesn't say Mini Trail. Is it a 70 or a 71? The guy I got it from didn't know that much about it.

Thanks, Gary

Re: CT70 model question

Welcome to CT70 Identification Guide

This should answer all of your questions.

Honda used K designations K0 (first year made) K1 (second model year) and eventually changed nomenclature to the year.

Hit the above link and it will make sense.

Re: CT70 model question

Considered a 1970 CT70. 3-spd. auto. Available in 3 colors. Candy Red, Candy Blue Sapphire & Candy Gold. First year CT70's are the most collectable. Blue Sapphire were the most produced color and considered by most the best color. CT70H'S 4-Spd's are even more desireable. Top dog among CT guys.

Re: CT70 model question

Would 06/70 be a 70 or 71, or dosen't it matter. Oh ya, it's red and needs alot of work. But thats what I like to do.

Re: CT70 model question

That would be a 70. When did they start making 4 speeds?

Re: CT70 model question

The identification guide says 1970 was when they started coming with 4-speeds.

Re: CT70 model question

From 1970 through 1973, both the 3-speed auto clutch and the 4-speed manual clutch were available for the CT70.
As indicated in the CT Identification Guide, the 4-speed models have the H designation in both the frame and engine numbers.
