| CT70 Resto-mod
Hey, I'm new to the forum and so I thought I'd fill you guys in on my little winter project. My friend picked up a pair of trail 70's for $80. One was mostly complete, the other was spare parts, but most of the important stuff was there. So I bought the parts bike for next to nothing. My grandpa bought a pair of theses new back in the early 70's and they were the first motorcycles I learned to ride on. So I figured I would bring this one back to life and keep it from rusting away somewhere. So here's some pictures of the build. Here's how it was before the tear-down. Cant really see much, but it's in there under the work bench (folding handle bars make it a real space saver). ![]() And after everything came apart ![]() New parts! ![]() Step one: fix seat foam and recover ![]() ![]() ![]() And a little mock-up ![]() Nice carbon fiber pipe, but someone needs to work on their grammar. ![]() That's all for today. Check back for more updates |

Im working on the same project right now same bike same color. Where did you get the pipe from and price. Do you like the quality. Is it the same as the new TB pipe? Did that seat cover come from classic honda? |

| Re: CT70 Resto-mod Seat cover is from DRATV. I've got a ton of parts from them. Great people over there. I have no idea if the pipe is same as the TB one, but it looks pretty solid. Looks like you're project is going good too.

I did run into one problem. I was going to order the OEM decals from the local dealer. They said all part numbers are no longer aval. Classic honda did have them in stock. I just dont think the parts guy knew what he was doing but who knows. I would just get a set ordered soon if your planning on getting them just to be safe.

Got a little bit of work done on the bike today. I'm still waiting on a bunch of parts to show up so I picked some of the less glamorous jobs to tackle. So i cleaned and sprayed some parts. Gas tank cap before: ![]() Ready for paint: ![]() Battery holder before: ![]() Any my homemade paint curing booth ![]() And the finished product for the day. Probably gonna add a second coat tomorrow, hopefully the wind dies down because spray painting in a 25 mile per hour shifting breeze is no fun. |

| Re: CT70 Resto-mod There's no wife around here to boss me around. I guess that one plus to being single, young, and stupid. And I'm renting the house so pretty much anything goes. And as far as my paint booth, the parts were just drying there. I didn't use the oven range to spray in. I'm not that retarded. So i got some more parts today: ![]() And i got the rear brakes buttoned up. I had to file down the shoes to get them to fit in there right. I guess that's what I get for ordering cheesy aftermarket parts. ![]() That's all for today |

Very Nice! Keep the pics coming! So, are you going Blue or red? I noticed the blue headlight bucket. I say Red! I'm itching for a Red like yours to park beside my blue one, it's lonely! BTW is that a micro "john" in the corner of your garage? If so NICE! I mean who wants to walk all the way inside to take a leak when your out with some beers working on you CT. Right? |

As far as the color of the bike, I'm going with blue. It's my favorite color for the 70's and the color of both of my Grandpa's bikes that he bought four decades ago. I learned to ride motorcycle on a blue Honda 70 so I wouldn't mind owning one. People might give me crap for changing it's colors, but it's my bike and I'll do what I want. So time for updates. Got another shipment - new front end, shocks, wiring harness. I spent a bunch of time getting that sorted out (it was made for a chinese clone). They included a wiring diagram that wasn't much help because they invented new colors to label it. Blue was "blae," green was "gren," and white was "wite." But I got it all figured out with a little help from Sam Adams and my multimeter. Heres what the original looked like. I dont know what was going on here. ![]() Wiring is pretty dull stuff, so fast forward to putting on shocks and forks. I really need to buy a real bike stand. ![]() And she's a roller ![]() I'll fill you guys in on a little side project I'm doing. The CL90 (aka "The Panty-Dropper") seen in the first pic ran like crap. A combination of worn out piston, valves not seating, and an intake leak. Also, the carb would dump the gas tank onto the floor at night if you didn't turn the fuel off, it had multiple oil leaks, and the kick start was welded to the shaft and then broken off by an unnamed person (you know who you are). To top it off, on my last ride of the year, the rear sprocket bolt worked loose and locked my rear wheel up when I was went to pull away at a busy intersection. Yeah, time for a rebuild. Well i just got the parts back from the machinist. ![]() Struggling to go the speed limit has never been so much fun Last edited by net450r350x; Today at 07:00 AM. | |
