ST has a different engine design and mounting...different ignition and charging

I'm gonna go pick it up with intentions of finding someone with an old clunker ct 70 that will make a trade. I don't know what it is but ct70 just pulls me in i must have one!

My Mood: | Re: CT70 vs ST90 actually the dual range is an addition to the left side cases...the motor part and most items located inside the main cases of the engines are alot alike

CT90 might be similar, but a CM91 is almost the exact same motor.

Not all the CT90s had the dual-range transmission. The pre-cursor to the CT90, the CT200 Trail 90 had a pushrod engine with a 4-speed auto trans, and the early CT90K0 Models had the OHC 4-speed with dual overlay rear sprockets. ![]() |

still not the same as an st90, but nice recovery. Funny enough, the OHV 90 motors mount right up to any Honda 50 frame. This is what made my OHC conversion in my CM90 so easy. You still need the footpeg bracket or a new style foot peg though. |

ST90 swingarm mounts on the outside of the frame and the CT70 mounts inside the rear of the frame.

The ST90 seats are made better, stronger welds and don't bend and break where the CT70's do. Hard to come by but do fit the CT70's nicely. IMO

Thank you for all the info once again! I like the frame style of the ct70 an st90 but i like the ct for the swinger mounting inside of the frame i think it looks very trick. An im not a fan of spoked wheels. If i purchase it is there enough people around that would be intrested in parts or the hole bike? Im not trying to make any money off of it im just a fan of seeing old bikes being riden still as this bike has sat in his attact for prolly 15 years. Im sure someone would pay 50 to 100 an try to get it going to ride you think? I honestly think it just needs to be cleaned up an serviced an itll go.

| Re: CT70 vs ST90
I've only seen one actual running ST90 in my life, but a friend who's owned and worked on most of Honda's smaller bikes through the 70s told me, when I had a question similar to yours ("Hey, check this out, here's a complete ST90 for $XX!") that he'd had two or three STs through his shop over the years and both were real nice cushy rides, comfortable and fun, and both of them had one gear bad in the transmission. Can't remember if he said it was 2nd or 3rd, but they both had the same problem, and he commented that he'd never run into that on any of the other old-style OHC 90 (89cc) motors before. We'd both experienced failed hi/lo boxes on ATC90s, but that's a lot more weight and rolling resistance and traction than a bike... ...I think STs look cool but they've been overlooked by the aftermarket. A CT would be easier. An ST would be a neat bike to have if you were serious about having an ST, or wanted to go totally wildass custom like doopsX3's bike, but it would not be the most direct, convenient route to getting onto a small Honda and keeping it running with readily available parts. |
