| ct70h tranny
i was piecing together a motor and i was thinking about putting a 70h 4 speed in it but i was wondering about the strength of it. i had an ahp 4 speed in the past and i was wondering how it would compair to that from those of you who have had both. thanks for any input you have or can offer! |

How's the TRX70? It looks to have the same ratios and pattern as JDM Monkeys?

ive been reading lately about people using those or wanting to use them but i dont know anything about them. im kinda new to the mad scientist way of building engine lol what makes the gears fail? is it the way they are made (thickness, metal) or how they are ridin, or maybe a combo of both? |

CT70H and CL70 trannies are fine. It is the 1 down, 3 up older trannies that have trouble. They work fine until you put 10+hp to them. However, a CL70 or CT70H have taken my 15hp+ beasts no problem.

my brother and i have tried having an edge in the 88 mod class here in the north east. Both of us ran 4 speeds for the first year. From start to finish both of us ran through lifan 4 speeds 3 to be exact. My brother burned up a trx70 4 speed but i think the person who had it before him ran the bike out of oil cuz one of the gears ended up warping to the main shaft. Finally i got my hands on a ct70h 4 speed. Imediately i noticed the gears were even thinner in thickness than the trx or lifan tranny at that point i new it was just luck on how long it would last. Moto town (a hard pact track) gernades 3rd gear do to the fact that a 50 doesnt have cusions (rubber bushings like a 110 does for the rear sprocket) causeing all the force to go right into the tranny when you land. So after all of that im back to a honda xr50 3 speed tranny, as its the strongest you can put in there. For street use 4 speeds should be able to last no problem, on dirt id stick to a 3 speed if your huckin 40 foot tables. TRX70 tranny ![]() 71SL70 and 71ct70h tranny ![]() They may not look very different but trust me there is a huge difference in the thickness of the gears on a ct70h tranny compaired to any nock off 4 speed or trx704 speed. Id take pictures of the ct70h tranny i had but it blew up into so many pieces i threw it out haha. Last edited by 50rider340; 01-15-2009 at 01:19 PM. |

i had one of those close ratio 3s and i didnt like it very much at all, it just didnt fit my riding style or something. however i had an AHP 4 speed and i really liked that so i think ill give the ct gears a shot and see if they blow up on me too lol im thinking they probably wont but we'll see |

I agree above...if you are in the dirt racing, an older 4-speed is not the way to go. Run a 3-speed or buy a trx90 bottom to build your motor from. On the street, an older 4-speed will hold up to about a 106cc build...beyond that you are looking for trouble. As for where to get CL70, CT70H, and TRX70 gearsets...keep your eye on ebay. If someone wants a complete H tranny, contact me...I have one, including kick shaft and gear. |

so the ct gears wouldnt be good on dirt at all but they are alright for street use? not even ok for dirt on an 88? thats weird since its only 18 more ccs than the original motor, but you guys say they are pretty skiny so i guess it makes sense. i was thinkin about it for riding in the back yard no serious racing stuff

| Re: ct70h tranny i usually dont do that and i dont hit huge jumps anyway im a woosy after a few hospital visits lol and i dont know what happens when a tranny breaks so i dont really know whats the worst that could happen. i suppose the worst would be if i was riding by a cliff and the gears snapped and the tranny seized and i skidded of the cliff, fell 156ft. onto rocks and broken glass
