Engine Swap

Newbie question here:

Will a GPX 4- up 125 motor bolt into a 70s vintage Z50 softail ? Are there clearance issues anywhere ? What is involved ?

Thanks in advance. Just thinking about a wicked project depending on your answers....................

The engine is going to be awefully close to the front fender if not contact it.

The footpegs will need to be lowered or widened, and you'll have to find a place to mount the 12V coil and CDI, and if you are going to run lights, you'll have to mount a battery box and voltage regulator as well...

Nothing that can't be worked around...

Thanks............I'll check the length and look at the pegs. Lights; unsure of at the moment. Not looking for street legal but maybe just some of the original look.

Thinking of upgrading Pitster to Stage II motor from T-bolt and may have the stock motor available............

Anyone have a pic of one that has been done ???

That sounds like a great project! I think the swap would be really simple. Many of the chinese engines come complete with the wiring harness, throttle, lighting coil, kill switch, clutch, coil etc etc etc. If you got a kit that had everything you could be riding in a day I bet.

125cc Loncin $295 shipped

I'm hoping it won't be too bad............looking to do something w/ the forks as well. Might prove to be an interesting project along w/ the 73 Z, the 82 MB5, and the 75 CL360 restorations...................what am I thinking ???

Okay,

Parts coming.............got a set of XR 70 forks and triple clamps and Zongshen 125 motor.

The K3 will get roughed together for fabrication and then dismantled for painting. The snow will be flying before it will be done but I have been sneaking out to work on it.

Anyone have any idea what to do for an exhaust pipe ????
