Extremely weak light @ idle

Is that normal for a 76 Z50?
The light is nice 2nd gear wide open.

Thanks

HondaZRider has a 74' Z50 with 125 Lifan Motor running 6v system. He has head light, tail light and turn signals + horn. At idle his light is very weak and the horn barey works. He is working on wiring a 6v 2ah battery into the system which should take care of most of that.

That is normal. I have the same bike and it does the same thing. The z needs a battery if you want to keep the lights brighter during low rpms.

Re: Extremely weak light @ idle

Here's the cumulative problems you you could be experiencing.

If you want brighter lights on a 6V Z50A, replace the harness and get a new set of stator coils.

Over time, the harness and connectors built up resistance limiting full voltage going to the lighting. Also, these bikes also have a weak grounding system. Add another ground for the headlamp and taillamp and with the above, your lighting will be much better and more stable.

Re: Extremely weak light @ idle

Thanks guys......I have had this bike for 30+ years and I always remember the light being dim at idle. Last night was the first time she has ran in 15 years (Started first kick btw) and the head light is dimmer that a candle and tail light is non existiant at idle.

I will clean all the connections and check the ground. Is there just the one ground under the seat?

How may watts does the stock stator put out?
