What the hell happened to the forks? The legs are so long. They won't stay straight.

+1 legs combined with +1 springs will give your forks a pretty tall look, i'm assuming that's whats going on with those. the fact that the legs don't have the rubber boots on the bottom of the tubes makes them look longer too. there is no reason why they would'nt stay straight, unless of course that's not the reason why the forks look so tall

Short wheel base / higher center of gravity = crap handling. JMOP.

Where can you find a new set of fork legs? Mine are bent from a kid plowing into a tree.

Re: a friends z

fast50's sells fork legs specified for z's, but they are the exact same dimensions as crf/xr legs. crf legs can be used with no mods necessary. nice part about the crf legs on a z is it enables you to use crf fork guards, which i think look sweet on a z

Re: a friends z

Do you have to convert to disk brakes when you go with the XR forks?

no, xr's and crf's use drum brakes, just like the z, only the drums on a z are much bigger. crf legs will be a direct replacement, no mods necessary. you can also use crf hd springs and delrin bushings without any modding. z fork tubes and crf tubes are identical in length and diameter, only difference is that the tubes on z forks are spaced farther apart to accomodate the wide wheel.

if you wanted to, you could bolt on an entire crf front end, only you will be stuck using a crf wheel up front if you do that. its entirely up to you, but i would advise putting crf legs, bushings, and springs into your stock z fork tubes. i did this conversion on my z and i love it. the front end is now solid as a rock

Fast 50s makes two sets of fork legs with the same dimensions as stock. They make stock Z50R legs, and stock CRF50 legs. If you get CRF50 legs, they will bolt on and allow the use of fork guards, but you will need to flip the wheel 180 because the brakes are on the left on the CRF50.

The drums are the same size on 1980-1999 Z50R's and 2000-current XR/CRF50's. The drums are only larger on the 1968-1979 Z50A/R's. You are however correct. CRF50 extended legs, springs, delrin bushings and such. However, they are not all identical. To start out, the CRF50 springs are an inch longer than Z50R springs. That is why CRF50's have 3.5 inches of fork travel, and Z50R's have 2.5. So getting stock CRF50 springs for your Z50 will make them +1. And you are also correct that the spacing is much wider for the Z50 forks.

I thought Down Components was bought out and no longer existed? Am I wrong? If not, do you have a web site address.
