Future Z50 swing arm

I picked up an XR80 swing arm for $4.99 and I'm gonna mod it for a Z50.I already got started.Got it cut to fit the frame and got all the things I won't need cut off.I think I'm gonna butcher an XR50 swing arm to steal the spacer thingy and brake tab off of it.The swing arm is in good shape and it measures 16" so it is 4" longer than the Z swing arm. It'll be a good swing arm for the drag Z I'm gonna be building over the next 10 years or so...

i ground the welds off the Z swinger and took the spacer and brake tab off, then welded to the xr swinger. it worked out good.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

Yeah that's what I figure I'll do on this one.I have a mint XR50 swing arm laying around, but we all know what used parts are worth. The parts to put this one together are worth more than I'd get for whole swing arm.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

The swing arm will probably end up being painted black, along with the frame.I think I'm gonna run XR/CRF50 forks with a CRF50 front wheel. Then I'll run a chrome Z50 rear wheel with a fat ass tire on it.Probably an IRC tire up front.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

Looks good so far. Is the spacer necessary? I didn't put one on mine, so is mine off by 1/4 inch?

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

After installing my Z rear wheel I've discovered that I don't need a spacer.Bolts right up.Just need the brake tab, which makes my job easier.Still pretty slow at work so I got some more done today.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

Brake tab blank in place.I'll run it by my buddy's place and have him zap it on.This is going quite well.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

I scored a brand new Joker Machine tall boy bar clamp today for a VERY nice price. Now I am committed to using XR/CRF50 forks for my drag bike build. The clamp should work very well cause it is real high and forward.

Looking good! Now to add a 6" stretch and a few degrees rake to the frame...

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

Well I'm gonna stretch the frame (probably) but I have no idea how to change the rake.I don't want to build a chopper any way.More like a naked crotch rocket.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

Haha,at this point I have no idea what top speed will be cause I have no idea what power plant I'll using.Maybe my GPX engine, maybe a chinker 110 knock off engine. It's gonna more for form than function really.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

I wanna do a street legal long & low Z with a YX150 tuned up a bit. I'm gonna test the streetability of it with my (soon to be) plated Xtreme first.

Re: Future Z50 swing arm

I'd let you know how this one works out but I don't know when it'll be done. You will probably have yours done before I do.Hell, the other Z in the picture was just finished and I haven't even fired it up yet.
