well guess thats why my pipe brown, was cold and dark out, i don't think it would get that hot going down the road as the cold air would cool it down. i think cold air worsens the lean condition since colder air is denser than warm air, still haven't got a jet change or checked then now loud tappets. it's trooper all the way. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

my TI pipe on my 88 would do that if i held it half throttle for a little bit. It was jetted right to, TI pipes turn red hot real easy. sweet photos.

Plug check. Jets, timing, valve clearance. Your motor's blowing a lot more hot air than mine, but still, that seems excessive and makes me think "lean mixture" or "retarded timing." Was it visibly glowing as dramatically as it was in the photos? Sometimes the CCD in digital cameras/video cameras freaks out a little in response to the IR coming off hot metal things and exaggerates the glow effect in the image. |

My Mood: | Re: glowing header Personally I wouldn't try for anymore "glowing head pics". Every time you running that lean and hot you take a HUGE chance of burning a hole in the piston, toasting valves, adding increased cylinder wear (i.e. many hours of wear in a minute) and warping any surrounding aluminum including the cylinder head. You are better running a little rich and cool than lean and hot.

I'm more blown away by how much that (cellphone?) camera sucks. Pipes glow red not pink! Something is definitely not right. Rejet that carb before your skin and the motor melts! |

| Re: glowing header I'm pretty sure ring condition is unrelated. If anything low compression would cool the exhaust somewhat. Your overly hot exhaust will be the result of too long a burn, lasting too far into each exhaust stroke. A lean mixture burns slower, so that could be one cause. Retarded ignition timing can have this effect too.
