Got my 1+ springs & 1+ fork legs on and a XR80 swingarm installed though I've still have to finish paint it. I also made a brake rod and put the longer chain on. I used used the XR80 shocks for now until I find some longer ones I like. Before- ![]() After- |

Sick! I had an opportunity to own one a couple years ago but he wanted over 2k for it. I consider it the best z50 ever. I have it's brother the 86 z50r in red. |

Could you get the XR swing-arm chrome plated so it matched the bike better?

My Mood: | Re: Got a start on my modded '86 Z50RD Well this one was "barn fresh" to say the least when I got it, like laying over on it's side in the corner forgotten about years ago "barn fresh". I traded my buddy a old trailer (about $50) for it. It's got a china 90 in it for now until I can do what I really want with the OE 50 motor (major smoker -cough cough). I still need a decent rear fender (cracked) and put a nice front fender on shortly after I took that pic. I like all the chrome but sometimes it would be simpler if it was just painted.

You can buy several aftermarket longer rods for xr/crf50's or do the home fabbed thing I did which is go to a hardware store and buy a fence/door turnbuckle rod set for 6.00 and cut it to length. One nice thing about that rod set is only about 4" is threaded on one end and the rest is smooth rod. You do have to weld a washer on the rod for the spring or you could buy a small collar with a set screw if you don't have a welder then bend to fit - simple.

I only asked cause they are such cool bikes to start with. I like the direction you are going with it, most I ever see are left all stock. I just thought it would make it look like it came that way if you had it chromed.
