| hardtail carrier rack?
I was just looking at a photo of a hardtail Z50 with a big chrome tubular rear rack on it, which appeared to attach to the rear seat bracket holes and also to two tubular struts that went down to the ends of the rear axle. Was this a Honda option or some aftermarket rig? I've looked here in the classifieds and on ebay once or twice and not seen mention of racks like this. TB has one for K3-78 models that says it will fit hardtails if you "drill two holes in the frame." I'm not sure where the hole drilling would be taking place, from looking at the photo. I could use a rear rack on mine, though. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks... |

I looked on the hooper imports site and saw that you can get the one they use on the (Pitbull?) monkey clone for about $30. Maybe for that kind of money it would be worth it to get one of those and try to modify the rack itself to fit a hardtail, rather than "drilling holes in the frame." Does anyone here (Makotosun?) have a rack-equipped bike like that and actually strap anything to it? Pretty sturdy, or no? |

Jeff from minigunz.com has an aftermarket rack on his hardtail. You may want to drop him a note to see where he got it, or if he made it. http://www.minigunz.com/images/gallery/DSCN1754.jpg If I remember right, someone (could have been Jeff) either made them in the past or still makes them. |

While at Jeff's shop I asked the same question. He can make most anything if the Quantity is 25 or more. That is an attractive rack.

The attachment points are the rear axle and the seats rear up rights. ![]() |

Yep, that's the one I was looking at. One of those babies would be ideal. I wonder if that was a period accessory of if it was added later, and from where...

I'll ask my father-in-law if he put it on there.

Looks like a shin killer. For the record, I bought one of the Hooper racks and bolted it to a z50r frame. Fits without mods, and the rack itself is pretty well made. |

You don't bang your shin into it when you throw a leg over? I can't get on a CT70 without hanging a leg on the taillight. |

Now, see, if a guy lighter and more agile than me put some rollers or caster wheels or something on the back of what we'll call in this thread the "duc rack," imagine the stunting possibilities... Actually I'm light enough and agile enough myself to put the rollers on there. But with me the stunting possibilities would be pretty limited. |

I have only rode the bike a few times and haven't hit it yet. There was a seat on there and I'll most likely put it back on so I can give the kids a ride. Also, I'm 6'4" so I just step over the bike. lol |

I'm shorter, about 5'10", but I make up for it by being kind of fat. I don't have any trouble stepping over my Z either. But CTs are taller...sometimes I smack the giant taillight on my CB450, throwing a leg over that.

The rack that he has shown is similar to a ct70 rack but was specifically made for the Z50a Hardtails. It isnt a modified ct70 rack. I also have a couple of these and they have honda Z50 stamped right on them.

| Re: hardtail carrier rack? Both the CT70 rack and the above Z50 rack were made by an aftermarket company back in the early 1970's. I used to have the company documentation written down but can't find it. These were not honda, but were a dealer add-on.

Where is the marking located? I didn't see any when I was cleaning it.
