Is there any spark at all. That would help you diagnose the prob. Take the plug out and connect it to the coil. Ground the spark plug to the head and kick the motor over by hand. Do you have spark? Should be bright. let us know.

Disconnect both the wires that come out of the kill switch. Try again.

Test coil: find wire that feeds coil (skinny little thing, bullet connector) and unplug it. Take a known good plug, put it in the plug wire and lay it on the head so it's grounded. Get yourself either an automotive battery charger with a 6V output setting, or a 6V lantern battery. Connect battery's or charger's ground to the engine somewhere. Brush the battery's or charger's positive lead against the end of the little feed wire (primary wire) going into the coil. Brush it so that it briefly makes contact, then breaks contact, which simulates what the points do when the engine is running. If the coil is working, you'll see a spark at the plug as the brief connection is broken at the coil primary wire. Odds are good that your coil is okay and the problem is with dirty, pitted or out-of-adjustment points. Sometimes the plug wire gets funky inside even when the coil is good, but the points get outta shape more often than the coil does, in my experience. If you get spark at the coil, I'll try to dig up the "visual aid" dirtbkr188 sent me and walk you through setting your points up. But check the coil first. |
