Post a picture. DO NOT HEAT THE SCREW! You will change its temper and could make things worse.

Does it move at all? Is it reverse thread maybe? The larger bit it the right way to go, just be patient.

You have a hand held impact driver you said? If so your larger bit that now fits in the screw, will it fit the driver? If so with all your strength hold the driver into the screw and twist to loosen while giving the end of the driver a good hit with a heavy hammer. The hard twisting without slipping the bit is key! Sometimes an extra set of hands helps. You can argue over who swings hammer and who holds driver |

use a punch on the outer part of the head and tap it and it will break loose!!!!!!! If you break the had off dont worry, the rest of the screw will come out easily, the taper on the head and the clutch bearing retainer piece usually lock together pretty good! |

If you have an angle grinder with a thin metal cutting blade you may be able to cut a slot into it which will enable you to use a big moby slotted screwdriver. The screwdriver should have a square shaft that you can place a large crescent around to gain some leverage on. DO NOT USE AN E-Z OUT!!!!!!!!!! e-z outs break, and when they break you are then stuck with having to get the "tool steel" out which is a pain in the ass because it requires a special carbide drill bit. If it is too stripped and too tight and you cannot get it out, last resort should be to get a tap for the same size threads the bolt has with the special sized drill bit specified for the tap. Then, you can drill out the bolt and re-tap the threads to the original size. you can also try using an impact screwdriver like the one shown here, as you hit it with a hammer it twists, make sure it is set to turn counter-clockwise before striking it, as you can use it to tighten as well. OTC - 1/2" Drive Impact Screwdriver (OTC4607) You might try this new product as well, although it looks like it is more for rusted bolts. Welcome to: LoctiteŽ Freeze & Release Or, if you have a can of electronics air duster, you can turn it upside down and spray it and it will spray-freeze as well. Hopefully one of these techniques, or a combination of these techniques will that get that bad boy out, good luck!!! |

I agree with Fuel also. Mine did this and I took the smallest/thinnest cut-off blade on my Dremel and made a very slight cut where a flathead could get a good hold. After a few minutes and a beer, it came loose.

Drill the head out with a 7/64" drill bit, once the head starts to spin, stop drilling. Remove the cover, and you can then unthread what's left of the machine screw by hand. Been there, done that...

Sears now carries a set of extractors that was the #1 most must have tool on a tv show I saw It has two ends...one side is a hardened little raspy thing that cuts out the slots and burnishes the hole hot from bluing. Then you flip it and put your drill on reverse and the thing comes right out. I plan on buying a set next time I'm at sears. Craftsman 4 pc. Drill-Out Power Extractor - 450SR at Sears.com Cheaper ones: Craftsman 3 pc. Screw-Out Damaged Screw Remover Set - 52154 at Sears.com Last edited by fatcaaat; 03-10-2009 at 08:26 PM. |

Not sure but you might be able to tap in with a smaller tap smaller then the screw reverse taped, then screw a hex screw into the striped screw reversed and un-screw it that way

| Re: Help!! Messed up screw This is exactally what I did. Make sure you cover up the clutch and inside of the case to prevent the metal shavings from getting everywhere. New screws are still readily available from Honda Parts.
