| honda 1984 Z50r mini
hello i currently have a z50r 184 honda dirtbike and i was needing some help. im looking for some parts for it that are getting too expensive for me. i really need a muffler and a seat, but i also need a front wheel and both front and back brakes gas cap and air filter, im only 14 so be easy on me, i just need to know if you have any good ideas on where to shop for because 150 dollars for a seat is ridiculous. thanks http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...dea6a691e3.jpg Last edited by popcorc; 11-15-2009 at 12:16 AM. |

ebay? or you could fix the one you've got by cleaning up & painting the steel base, purchasing new foam from an upholstery or craft store, and then getting a cover from dratv.com or some other bike store. Z50 BODY PARTS sani |

My hardtail's first rejuvenation when I got it years ago involved a fuel tank from a Craftsman/Tecumseh garden tiller, bungee-corded to the front of the seat and resting on the top frame tube, and an air filter from a Tecumseh 3.5hp engine. I've since purchased a correct fuel tank, but I'm still running a Tecumseh air filter. Z50R tanks become available fairly regularly; just keep an eye on the classifieds here. I picked up a usable one with some dents in it as a free extra with a parts trade I did. I'm okay with dented fuel tanks as long as they don't leak and are securely mounted. Wheels and stuff will turn up too, eventually. A new wheel half from CHP racing is only about $22-23, not sure what they cost from Dr. ATV but with some well-budgeted Christmas money... Post pics as it is now. At least a few of us (well, okay, maybe only me) enjoy seeing creative rat jobs too. You've established your desire to make it original at some point; you won't get ridiculed too much I don't think. |

dude, I think it's kinda cool with the pocket rocket front tire...looks like a little chopper. nice job with the seat - if you find the duct tape starts to fall off and you need to re-do it, try using hvac tape (aluminum foil tape). I find it's more robust than duct tape. Keep it up! sani |

My son's Z50R came to me with a pretty rusted-out seat base, with most of the rust being around the rear rim of the seat pan. The mounting ears and the part of the pan directly around and between them was fine, so I cut the rusty part away. I had what I think was a cheapo aftermarket CT70 seat someone had given me with a plastic base. I removed the foam and cover from both, and was able to cut the nose and part of the center off the plastic seat base so it fit around the remaining metal of the Z50R trimmed seat base, and bolted the two together. The CT70 foam, which was in perfect shape, then fit after a little trimming. I took the whole thing to a local auto-interiors guy and he trimmed the foam a little more and upholstered it in snowmobile seat vinyl for $60. It's longer than a Z50R seat normally is but still looks okay, I think, and the cover's nicely done. Definitely cheaper than $150; if your base is okay and the foam's all there you might talk to some upholsterers in your area. The pocketbike front wheel is an interesting look, for sure. |

Pay the 150 for a new seat. I did and I don't regret it one bit. Trust me you'll love it when you see the difference.I'm after trying to get seats to look the same but you'll end up spending close to that tryin to get it to look good, but hey, you might not be as picky as me!
