| Honda S65 weak to no spark
I have a 1963 Honda S65 I picked it up for $250 the bike was disassembled and in boxes, I put the bike together enough so i could see if the motor would run or attempt to. I check spark and a first there wasnt any if the plug was grounded to the block but if i pulled it away so there was a little gap between plug and block there was a spark faint at times (at one point did give me a lil jolt when my hand touched it as i was turning the bike over), the spark was jumping from bottom of plug and not the electrode, I then tried to adjust the points to the proper spec and pulled the flywheel off and cleaned all the magnets, Now the bike has no spark at all or it's so faint i can't see it. I checked wiring and everythings seems to be ok tried another plug and no change in my results, what things can i try to check the electrical system (points, condensor, stator, coil) to figure out the problem, Thanks

I'd say that for a 1963 bike it is time to update a bit. You should buy a condensor and points and consider a new coil. Also, jump it. Take the black wire directly from the stator and go directly to the coil to bypass the electrical system. If it is better than before, then you know the electrical system is not right. |

Yeah the motor looks like is has been rebuilt before, but I will order new points and condensor and the electrical sytem is already bypassed and i'll try and find another coil pack to try. just to make sure which wire should be conected to the coil i have a black one comming from the motor conected to it but there are like 4-5 other wires, when the motor was out of the bike when i bought it the coil was already connected to that wire i just took it off and reconected it since is was already kind of a hack job.

also try taking the spark plug cap off and see if you can get spark to jump to the motor without the cap on the end. Sometimes those go bad, (had it happen on my passport) now im not even running one haha.

Make sure you have a good battery in there. I have a 67' CT90 and I was told it needed a charged battery to fire properly.

My bike never came with a battery doesn't even have a spot to put one which makes it a weird S65 cuz all the info I found on the S65 all had batteries and I can't find anything older than a 1965 S65. My Vin has been run and it says it's a 1963 if anyone has any info on it that would be great. i'm going to try and take the cap off the wire even though it looks brand new and try that if not i'll order points and condensor and try that.

Then, pop the flywheel back on and adjust them. If you don't get a nice fat spark after that, well, then think about a kit...the coils can go in them too. | |
