How much is a 1993 good condition stock z50 worth?

I can get a very good condition 1993 z50 with current registration for $500. Is that a good deal?

I plan to turn it into a 88 and race the 88 class. What parts will fit on it that fit on a crf50?

The complete front end will fit, but you'll have to run the CRF50 wheel or machine some stuff to get the Z wheel to fit.

If you want to run the 88cc class with it, I'd recommend a set of 10" wheels, and extended swingarm, and get some custom works performance shocks made in the length of your choice. I would put on a set of +1" fork legs and hold on tight.

sounds like a fun project..

That's what I am thinking. Running crf50 +1 fork legs and fork springs. Bar kit for sure, then some longer shocks and an extended swingarm.

How hard is it to source the rear end components?

Will the legs and springs from say red baron work fine with stock z wheel?

I want to keep those bad arse 10/10 super swampers!

If you move from the 8" stock wheels to 10" aftermarket wheels, I'd recommend the tires stillwater extreme sells in 3.5X10 in a true knobby.

For performance, I can't see the 8" snowblower tires working that great or any 8" tire that great in a competitive race situation.

Aftermarket swingarms can range anywhere from $280 to $750 depending on how much you want to spend. Shocks can range from $100 a set to $1500 a set depending on how much you want to spend.

yikes! I don't want to spend more than $500 on the rear. And damn I forgot about those 8" dingys. I thought they were 10's! Who makes aftermarket 10" wheels for em>?

Nobody makes aftermarket 10's for the Z50R 3 bolt hubs. You'll have to find a set of 4 bolt hubs ( or redrill the wheels) and then the rims will run $180-$400+ for the pair depending on which style, width and brand you go with. Most people buy Z50A hubs and run Kitaco or Takegawa aluminum wheels. Contact the forum member "dicktony" as he's got a +8cm Daytona swingarm, 10" Kitaco wheels and some 305mm KYB shocks (all used) he may want to sell.

You could get by for $500 for the rear. Get a Kitaco or Takegawa Swingarm, and spend as much as you can with the remainder of your $500 budget.

Re: How much is a 1993 good condition stock z50 worth?

yeah the z's run an 8" wheel but look a the height of the tire. You'll be running about the same rolling diameter as a 10" with the short tire.

As far as forks, I just put a set of z50 forks (lowers... you know the chrome parts) in my xr50 upper forks untill I find a nice set of +1 forks at a good deal. The only differance between the forks is mounting spots on the xr legs for the plastic fork guards. I don't know if the top tripple clamp will switch from one to the other but I wouldn't be suprized if they do.

Do some searches on how to stretch the rear. I think there are some other rear swingarms that are bolt on. And then there are some ways to cut and weld a stock rear to stretch it.

Re: How much is a 1993 good condition stock z50 worth?

Well i bought my 1993 Z50 in pretty decent shape 2 yrs ago and it was all stock & i gave $600 for it along with a 1992 rolling chassis missing some parts and 1/2 a motor. Ive since fixed mine up,installed the TB 88 kit and snow hawg tires with taller bars. Ive got around $800 in mine and have an offer from my brother of $600 for it. He already has 3 older Z50's and a Xr 50 & a bunch of CT 70 stuff. Not sure if im gonna sell it or not.

Im wanting to upgrade to a newer style 50 and im dealing on one now.
