i just took my paper work from the dealer and went to the state dept of motor vehicles, and said, hi id like to register a moped. then they asked me for i think the cert. of origin, the vin, colr and make and model. it was $6.50 to register including the plate. that was 3 or 4 years ago.... they now send me a renewal every year for a fee of $3.00...lol, theres nothing like a fiddy with a moped plate zip tied to the subframe... its awesome the looks you get...

in california they dont have a loop hole like moped plates. a fifty might as well be a harley as far as fees and regs. maybe the gas prices will bring out more small bore bikes and encourage the dmv to be more relaxed on registering minis and let us plate our 50s w/o the bs.

Yeah, Moped classifications are different in different states. IN CA, it has to be pedal-driven

I didn't hyave much trouble registering my skyteam but did go through a bunch of crap getting it insured. On all our 50's(stock honda xr/crf) we have we rewired the stator for lights. I guess you could do that and start mounting all your street legal crap or buy a baja design package. I bought a huge roll of magnet wire and have rewound 7-8 stators and STILL have a bunch of wire yet.

problem is, in the beginning of 04 in cali, they passed a law that if its not equipped to be street ridden, then it can be registered as a dual sport. that is the law, but some people have done the conversion and still done it, but it has gotten harder then it used to be.
