My Mood: | I won't be bored this winter ;)
Picked up the deal of the century tonight. I think... haven't really gone through EVERYTHING yet. Paid $325 for everything, filled up my f-150 box and some of the cab ![]() ![]() QA50 frame and wheels are mint, just surface rust, no cracks/welds, motor is pooched though, looks like it was used as a boat anchor. 2 Z50 hardtail frames are a little rough, both have a few "farmer welds" that I'll have to clean up. 19?? XR100 engine complete 2 Z50 engines complete (said to run, but low compression) 1 CT70 bottom end 1 ST70 bottom end And boxes and boxes of other treasures; heads, cylinders, clutches, clutch covers, shocks, electrical, misc. nuts and bolts (very handy to have), wheels (not pictured) Last edited by VillainMotorsports; 11-23-2008 at 08:24 PM. |

Thanks guys, he also had a complete 1986 Z50(running) for sale too for $350 and a pocket bike with a 110cc china motor in it for $150 and a bunch of harley stuff. He's some older biker dude who's going through a divorce, selling all his stuff and moving to Mexico. If I can scrounge up some more money I'm going back!

A fellow Canuck! Yes, if anyone needs a hobby it's gotta be the folks in Winterpeg! First year for the XR80 was 1979, untouched to I believe 1986, probably later. Great find, good luck when your wife / gf finds out. I'm on the hunt for a CT70 head... Last edited by LoudFastUgly; 11-19-2008 at 09:37 AM. |

Can't tell her about this purchase, she already thinks I have too many bikes. 6 bikes, 1 quad and now this stuff, pfft! That's barely a collection at all |

While everyone else in Canada was watching some football game this evening, I did some work on the Z's and my powder coating oven(not pictured). One of the hardtail frames had some severe damage on the chainside, I'm guessing a sprocket bolt came loose and started wearing through the frame. ![]() A little time with the MIG and a grinder and she's good as new. ![]() Then I sand blasted a set of upper forks, 2 sets of hubs, 2 brakes panels, top triple clamp and one set of rims that I shot with a rattle can and bolted on some polished hubs from an earlier job. One frame is ALMOST done. ![]() I have another set of powder coated rims but these polished hubs had a ding in the rear and a few fine scratches that couldn't be polished out so they're not perfect, that's why they're bolted to the rattle canned rims. I ran the other hubs and the triple clamp through the vibratory tumbler with ceramic stones to smooth 'em out a bit after blasting, they should polish out very nicely Once my PC oven is finished it'll be plenty big enough to do the frames and forks all at once Last edited by VillainMotorsports; 11-23-2008 at 10:00 PM. |

You're building your own powdercoating oven? Does she realize, however your shop smells, the level of dedication and drive a person would have to have to do that? That's motivated. Tell her to cut you some slack already, you're a renaissance minibike tinkerer. I'm still in the rattlecan stage myself. My own powdercoating rig? I almost can't even imagine such a thing. What are your plans for the QA motor? I ask because I know someone who's got a couple of non-running QAs and keeps an eye out for parts sources wherever possible... |

Works really well. Set the old oven at about 450 for about 10 minutes and you have powder coating! Of course the size is limited by the oven size, but it is large enough to put a full size automobile rim in, so you can do a lot of mini parts in the thing! | |
