These are china tanks. Not Honda quality. They will not accept a Honda gas cap or petcock. Great for a rider not resto. Nice deal though because they come with everything.

to tell you the truth I have never seen a chrome chink tank before now, but $130 for any tank is one heck of a deal in my book.

What year Z's do the Ape tanks fit without any modifications? * nevermind. I should have looked at the link. Looks like they dont fit Z's before '79. If Im correct, after 79 the changed the tank mounts on the frame. Last edited by ducatilover; 01-04-2009 at 02:18 PM. |

I have bought a ton from CHP and have had great service however I will not ever buy a chromed anything from them again unless it is OEM. The quality did not meet my rider/beater standard and not even close if you are trying to build something that looks nice. I bought a CT70 rack and whole sections were not chromed and the whole piece was pitted like mad. Still a reasonbable price for a new tank...but not for me. |

So the pictured Gorilla tank's mounts are or are not compatible with early softtail Z50A? If they are, how about the early softtail seat contour...will that be all stuffed out of shape against a Gorilla tank? Anyone know the fuel capacity of one of these?

I think the toasterousness of that tank is what I like about it. Same reason I think these are cool: http://www.realclassic.co.uk/mz04092701.jpg East German MZ TS250/1. Probably a little hard to find parts for in the US. Man, 2.3 gallons? Imagine how far you could go on a stock Z50 with a fuel load like that. Seems like I used to ride all over Columbia, MO in college on my Z and get a week's worth of use out of less than a tank...and that was at wide-open keep-up-with-the-traffic-as-best-you-can conditions. I talked to Lyle last Friday about these. He said he ordered 20 some odd and they sold within a couple of weeks. He is sold out of both tanks right now. I asked him if he could get them unfinished and he said he would not do that, but he is going to get them in red and black. I wanted an unfinished one for 2 resto projects. Also, I'm pretty sure the OEM cap and cock won't fit it. I have ordered alot of stuff from them and they have great service, but he wouldn't budge on this request.
