The "H" model is more desirable from a collector and value standpoint. If you can keep the motor and have it rebuilt that would be the way to go IMO. But more to you're question...do a search on Daytona type or style, those fit and offer a good perfromance value.

The Lifan will fit and make sure you get a wiring harness as the Lifan is 12v not 6v like the 72 ct70, I think you can even get a harness that will allow you to keep your current electonics (bulbs, speedo, etc...) with out having to replace them too. I would suggest going that route and then work on rebuilding the ct70h engine and put it back in, ofcourse the cost of rebuilding the engine is about the same as replacing with an aftermarket engine atleast where I am from that is. |

It might be good to consider what you want to do with the bike once you get it running. If you want to drag race cdoublejj for pink slips or something, you probably want more power than a 72cc Honda motor, which would point you toward the upsized Chinese engines or a modded Honda with a big bore kit. I've been told by people here that the stock CT70H tranny isn't up to big hp or hard use, though...although if you're going to rebuild the thing, for another C-note or two you can replace the whole 4-speed gear cluster. If you envision yourself riding amidst traffic that's going faster than 35-40 mph, you'll want more cc as well. Then you're wise to also be thinking about suspension and brake upgrades. If you want a really clean vintage Honda for the visual appeal of such a thing, and you want it to run well but don't have big mph or acceleration demands for it, I think you'd be wise to keep it stock(ish) and just pony up and rebuild it. Especially if you want to sell it later. I think you could spend more rebuilding the motor than buying some of the larger clone engines, especially if you do a really thorough job of rebuilding it. BUT you will then have an engine that will likely last decades, as long as you're realistic about what a stock engine can do and how that fits your needs. If you go large cc, whether Honda or clone, you'll likely be pushing the whole bike harder and won't get the same decades-long service out of it, but I suppose the short-term experience of it will be more intense... Any particular reason you want to switch from manual clutch (CT70H) to semiauto (Lifan 125cc)? Has someone substituted a semiauto motor for the manual motor your H originally had? I have a non-H in my garage with a manual H motor in it from some prior swap. Maybe your bike and mine once intermingled in some past life...no, wait, both the frame and motor in mine are from 1970. Never mind. Last edited by mexicanyella; 10-13-2009 at 08:03 PM. |

the bike is a 4 speed manual but i would rather have a semi auto, because I have a atc350x and just dont to want to mess with pulling in the clutch when I want to stop and the bike use will be minimal, with casual rides on the local streets and mainly pasture rides, so no need for big hp or any suspension mods, and that was why I said that I would get rid of the bike as a whole for someone who would want a matching bike with correct engine, because Im just a casual rider. With that being cleared up, I think the lifan 125cc is a good match of power and ease of installation. thanks for all the help, but keep it coming, I am looking for specific details of how to install, so far yall have given me the lifan will match bolt patterns and what ive read is that I need the 12v to 6v rectifier from Dr... and also the wiring conversion, is that all that is needed???

a few more informative facts...the bike is original, but I need to either rebuild the ori engine or buy a new one because the head is locked up due to water damage but the lower unit is perfect, I was able to get the side cover off today and everything is great inside... please keep the help coming... thank you so much, this site is great
