| lengthening a stock swing.
Has any one lengthened the stock swing arm on the 86 style z50? I know the xr75 can easily be made to fit but i can just as easily cut and lengthen mine. I would love to see pics of this if you have them.

That's exactly what i am thinking about doing. I have plans to make it beefy too. What did you do about the brake linkage? What shocks did you use?

I am thinking 4 in will be enough to make the bike a little less squirrely.

I forget who posted the thread in here, but they used round stock the same O.D. as the swingarm, and machined both ends on a lathe, and inserted them into the I.D. of the swingarm, notched the seams, and then welded them all back together. A topnotch professional job when it was all finished.

That is some top notch work dilligaf. I don't have acess to a lathe , so i am just going to find some tube with the same od as the id of the stock swing. You don't by chance remember what you had to turn it dow to do you dilligaf?

Lengthening the stock swingarm is an option but it looks like a lot of work compared to buying an xr75 swinger (already +4" longer), cutting a 1/4" off each "ear" on the Z frame and bolting on the swinger. If you don't do it like dilligaf did and you just slide a piece of pipe inside the swinger tube... you'll end up with a section of your swingarm that's smaller in diameter than the rest. here's just what you need! Although, I don't think it's worth $150+ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1975-...QQcmdZViewItem |

I may be doing something like that soon to fit some CT70 wheels. But I'll buy an old swingarm first. I always like to be able to go back to stock.

ok, none of you guys are moving the shock mounts up the swinger. i lengthened mine 3.5 inches and moved the shock mounts 3.5 inches up the swinger, so you get more travel and stiffness out of the stock shocks. ill post up pics in an hour or so

the first one is my rear swinger. we made a tab with the mount on it and moved it up, then ground the old mount plate off of the far back tab. screw it, attachments arent going thru i made it huge so you can see where the welds are, if you look closely about a half inch inch behind the end of the kickstand, theres the front weld, then, right above the front chain guard mount is the rear weld. its a 3.5 inch piece of barstock, actually 4.5 inches long, milled down on the ends a distance of one half inch to make it 3.5 inch long extension. you know what i mean |

i didnt have the money to buy daytonas or something for it, and with the added stiffness of moving them up, they stay pretty hard with the extra distance. if you know what im talking about
