| Making a Slipper?
Alright...here's one I thought I would do, but want to see what you think. Is it possible to put an automatic clutch basket on and then swap shift shafts and run a manual clutch cover? So, essentially, you have a slipper clutch setup...the auto runs like normal, but to shift gear to gear, you have to pull in the clutch lever? What do you think...will it work? |

Wait - that makes no sense at all. If you need the clutch to shift - it's a manual. If you're thinking of using what the autocrossers use - where you use the clutch for a holeshot, but then shift like an auto. Maybe you got confused?? DAVE |

Essentially, that would be the same as "toeing" the shift lever up a hair with your foot, I would say. The only difference is that you could disengage it whenever you wanted to. PS, Jarred, did you get my PM concerning Mid-Ohio ? |

Yeah...I got the message. I'll be on the lookout for it. For the clutch...do you think it would work? | |

i looked around the other sites and i have concluded that it is overall an excellent setup and suprisingly alot of people run them but ive never heard anyone talk about it here. i think Firepower mentioned it to me once but i say you cant go wrong

I have done this mod before, but it may only work on a low horsepower build. The first time I used an auto/centrifugal clutch from a Kazuma 90 atv motor mounted to a 54mm crank (zongshen).. No clutch lever though because it was not a pressure plate xr/crf style clutch basket, instead it was a 3 arm centriful with a bell. making the clutch grab when you raised the rpm's but it did not hold to well under heavy load 7k+ rpm ? Maybe it would be a good idea if better parts are used..

I think it would work fine if both the clutch have the same height. I am talking about the height of the assembled clutches sitting flat on a table next to each other. If one is taller then it wouldn't work. I have thought about this before too but I always talked myself out of it.

What exactly are the advantages to this? It doesn't really count as a slipper. When coasting, there is still engine braking because of the mechanism that engages the auto clutch for kickstarting. So it doesn't reduce engine braking. I guess you don't ever have to worry about stalls. But other than no stalls, is there really any point?
