| Making your own extended fork legs?
I'm throwing ideas around for one of my builds and it calls for +1 or 2 fork legs but the ones I'm running aren't available in extended form. I want to use a spare fork leg I have and cut it into sections and weld it onto the legs that are currently on the bike. Has anyone done this? If so, how well did it hold up? |

For what type of forklegs? Hydraulic ones can be extended at the top with screw-in parts.

What legs are you running? I would check to see if Rysem can make you a new set of legs. He was working on making CT70 fork legs for a bit.

What springs are you running? Dan's Idea is to add preload, this will only really help if your springs are not already preloaded. Why do you need this extra 1-2"? State requirement or personal preference? Let me understand this now. You had a nice Monkey, then you had the zb, then traded it for an xr50, and now you are building another monkey? |

I'm building another Monkey. My original plans were to run the fork legs on the Monkey and run 8" wheels. Now I'm thinking about selling the CRF so I figure I would throw the NSR forks on the Monkey and run the 10" G-Craft wheels I picked up. The CRF will get the Monkey forks so that's why I need an extra inch or two.

You are nuts. That xr50 is minty. I would keep it and build a monkey on the side. I would love to pickup the 6 spokers but I just don't have the funds for them right now. I think I am going a different direction for wheels once everything else is done.

I run complete stock crf50 fork legs/springs in the stock z50 uppers. You can run the crf50 fork legs with the stock z50 springs but you from memory the holes at the top of the legs (where the split pin goes) is off by 90' so you need to turn the spring to accomodate this. Stock crf50 fork legs are the same length as crf50's. So you would have to buy the +1 fork legs. |
