| Mikuni VM26 Tech
I thought some of you may find this useful. As some of you may know, when purchasing a geniune VM26, Kitaco and Takegawa/Trailbikes provide the carbs in different configurations with different Jetting. However, it's the same carb base but with different jets and needle jet, jet needles. Here's how they come out of the box: Takegawa and Trailbikes Main Jet 190 Pilot Jet 22.5 Needle Position 3rd from Top Jet Needle 5E75 Needle Jet 332 # O-0 Kitaco Main Jet 150 Pilot Jet 15 Needle Position 2nd from Top Jet Needle 4J13 Needle Jet 249 # Q-0 Takegawa and Traibikes provide the same 606 Carb. I hope this information provides itself useful, as I haven't seen this posted before. |

| Re: Mikuni VM26 Tech I don't know Jack about anything Chinese or carbs that could be copies of the real article. Lots of the chinese bikes come with Copy Mikunis. I know that Trailbikes, Kitaco and Takegawa sell geniune VM26's from Mikuni of Japan. |

I recently found out there are available real and chinese copy VM26's. And I don't mean that so called 26mm oval bore Mikuni. TBolt USA, LLC » Pitbike Engine Parts » CARB KITS But the info is geat, strange that Takegawa and Kitaco have so big difference in main jet size. Looks like people have a lot difficulties trying to get their VM26's dialed in, there are so much questions about it. Last edited by dax; 09-01-2008 at 12:41 PM. |

The kitaco is a VM26-665 then? (I have a non-kitaco 665 with the 4J13 needle, mainjet came as #145, slowjet don't know. It was preadjusted for circa 120cc) More general data about VM carbs (deutsch): http://www.topham.de/DEUTSCHSITE/KATALOG/VM_Katalog.pdf http://www.topham.de/DEUTSCHSITE/KAT...le_Katalog.pdf Last edited by nielspbr; 09-01-2008 at 02:38 PM. |

You can get the VM26 Mikuni from Sudco also. They are a legit company. I believe you may be able to order them custom set up for an additional charge. You want the link to the round slide carbs. Standard setting as they sell them are here: ![]() Note the VM26-8074 is a spigot mount carb, which would need an adapter to use. Picture and parts diagram for the VM26-606: ![]() You can order jets and other parts directly from them also. I use them as a source for my old Yamaha enduro work. |

I'm pretty sure it's cheaper to purchase the Mikuni 606 VM26 from trailbikes that's the same as the unit sudco sells. The takegawa and kitaco units will be more expensive as there is some extra hands in the cookie jar. |

It is good to know the shipped specs you posted, as that info is not always readily available. | |

The 8074 is signifcantly different than the 606. When comparing the two side by side, the main jet ends up off by no less than 5 sizes and the top speeds were different as well. The 8074 has a lever choke and uses a different pilot. The chinese knockoff mikunis take the VM606 pilot and then use a Keihin main....and they underperform compared to a true mikuni. |

I think I understand what I read, but I still have to confirm. The china copy vm26: TBolt USA, LLC » Pitbike Engine Parts » CARB KITS » China Mikuni VM26 copy And the real japanese one VM26: TBolt USA, LLC » Pitbike Engine Parts » CARB KITS » Mikuni 26mm Carb The two carbs looking alike use different mainjets, and even the sizes of the jets cant be compared to each other?? |

Good point Vince. I have two brand new carbs...one came with a Lifan 150 and one came with a GPX160. Both are stamped Mikuni. Both of them are actually chinese knockoffs, that look just like a Mikuni, but are not. They are also not actually 26mm but measure 24mm at the throat. At least the Molkt carb is stamped Molkt or blank stamped, but it irks me to no end to see a chinese carb with a raised cast-in letters reading Mikuni and vendors knowingly selling it as a Mikuni. A true mikuni does actually run much better than the Molkt or the Copy Mikuni's for everyone's information. |
