Alright I know a few of us are planning on being there, so I decided to start this thread to organize a small mini gathering and ride maybe two. What is everyones thoughts of meeting on Cannery row on Friday and possibly Saturday in the afternoon evening? The event schedule isn't up so exact times will for the meet and rides will be hard to determine until they are actually posted on the Red Bull U.S. GP site. *****Fridays Plans July 19th****** As Jay mentioned lets plan to meet on Friday after FP2 on Cannery Row. Ill get down there as soon as possible to try and hold a curb space for us to gather/pose for a bit before the ride. I plan to be on the row starting at 4 and will be there till about 6. During this time lets all try and gather here for a bit of posing before we head out on a short ride down the coast then back up to the track where we can end up hanging out at a camp site for some beers. If others want to get down to cannery row before 4 feel free, but try and hold a good curb spot space, enough for about 10 to 15 minis. *****Saturday Plans July 19th****** For Saturday I'm still open to suggestions but lets plan to meet again same time same place. Cannery Row squid central 4-6 for posing and general meet and greet, from there we can head off on another scenic Monterey Ride. Saturday night is normally pretty crazy on the strip with all the squided out Starbucks crowd pretty much taking over the strip. From what i can gather most of us plan on camping at the track it might work better to ride out from there on Saturday before things get out of hand and they close off the road. In past years ive seen this happen as the street fills sidewalk to sidewalk with foot traffic. Tail ends of the rides should wind up back at the track, so if your staying somewhere else you might have to break off before we start heading that way. The whole GP scene is a freaking blast, as thousands of Moto enthusiasts converge on Monterey for the weekend. So start putting some input into this thread of possible ideas around this and what seems to work ill clean up into the first post so we can use it as a info point. *COPY from one of Jays posts on another thread* If you don't have tickets to the race there are still plenty left. For lodging you're looking at camping at the track or paying ~$300 a night for a Motel 6 or similar motel. Tickets and camping passes can be purchased here. Do that now. Once the weather gets nice, people start riding their bikes again and they realize they want to go to the GP. Archery and turn 11 camping passes have sold out all three years and I expect they'll sell out again this year. Based on years past, I prefer the scene on Friday because it's a bit more mellow but Saturday is definitely bigger / crazier. A few people will need to reserve some curb-space right after FP2 on Friday and Quali on Saturday so we don't get scattered down the Row, mixed in with so many squid bikes with fur kits and DVD players (I kid you not). I guess we could alternate this boring duty if we gather both nights. *END* So far the list of guys that i know of that will be there from the form are. Camping is near the track, but not so near Cannery Row. I'll most likely be there, although I'll be taking the small bike unless I really kick some ass on the big one.

Hopfully ill make it, I have to make sure that my motor will be done. It should. I havent made any plans yet. Which I need to. I will probley drive down in the truck with my zb and a friends zb from oregon. I will meet up anytime you guys want to. I have never been to a GP race yet. So I probley will just find myself wondering around and getting lost. If need be I will just tow down my inclosed trailer and sleep in it with the ZB at a costco or walmart.

Yeah at this point im sure camping is filling up if not full at the track, and hotels will have limited availability at increased rates anywhere near the track. If you don't have anything booked for housing for the event you may have to look outside the Monterey area. My plans are camping as I was lucky enough to have a friend that has a spot booked. I did pretty poor planing myself. Lucky enough that things always seem to work out for me around GP somehow. |

I'm camping at the track with a few close friends. The track is close enough to downtown Monterey that it won't be a problem to ride a mini down there. I made a post on the topic a couple of weeks ago that might contain some useful information: Here |

I'd be down for a Friday night gathering, assuming Brad or Paunchy would haul my little one down for me. This photo is from '04, and if I recall correctly, it's about 10 miles to get from the circuit campgrounds to Cannery Row on the street. Taking the roadways means you need at least a minimum speed of around 50+ mph, because the circuit main entrance dumps you onto I-68 (I think that's the right highway) before you haul ass to get into Monterey. I've camped at Laguna for years, always having a mini to rip around on and get from one end of the track to the other. The sheriff's are kind of hard-asses about them, though, so have your paperwork (lic, reg, ins) in order and be prepared to get stopped even when riding on the "private" (read: non-public) roadways of Laguna Seca. Mostly, I think the locals just want to stop you and see what you're riding more closely. Speaking about camping, you'll want to get a tent that you can fit your bike into. I've picked them up for cheap at Target, broken them during the Laguna Seca GP weekend, and then returned them. Not that I'm a cheapskate, it's just that if I'm buying a tent to hold my bike, it should work for more than three or four days, haha. I've slept with a Z50J and an XR50 before, and always (I can't stress this enough) get your bike out of sight and inside your tent before you pass out. There's just enough drinking going on that some jackass will try and jump on your bike and bumpstart it, or worse, drag his hand across the paint and start finger****ing things, etc. Biggest reason to keep your bike covered and inside is because the campgrounds are Laguna are DUSTY, and in the morning dew there always attracts a thick layer of ****ty dirt and grime. Here's a photo of a typical campsite after everyone has left late on a Sunday afternoon. Can't remember the guy's name who had this goldbug. J- you got space onsite for M? |

I am thinking about going this year. I actually went to the GP in Brno, Czech Republic back in 2005 when Valentino was king, so its about time I see it in the US. My Z50R isn't street legal, so would there be anywhere to ride it without getting hassled or ticketed if we camp at the track?

Hi unclesam. I would think you could ride on the campgrounds with no problem, but getting from the campgrounds to other places around the circuit means you have to take the roadways (which have the sheriffs). You could try scooting on the sidewalks and paths, but I'm honestly not sure if you'd be ok. If you're an adult, acting in a fairly responsible manner (i.e. not wheelying, acting like a crazy kid) I would think the police wouldn't give you too much of a hard time.

I'm there all 3 days (cornerworking Sat & Sun) with my NSR. Hoping I won't be too tired to join the meet/ride since I'll be watching the bikes from my corner going down the corkscrew all day. |
