More Work!

I spent the last 2 weeks doing a general engine tune up and rebuilding the carb of my 'new' K5 Z50. I took it out for a test ride yesterday after getting guidance on the exhaust gasket from this forum.

I warmed up the motor at idle for about a minute or two then went off. About 10 feet later the motor made some strange noises and locked up. Sh1t! Gears function fine.

I was going to rebuild the motor anyway but I wanted to start it over the winter, not now.... So I started the disasaembly yesterday and when I pulled the carb off I noticed the the 'over flow valve' on the choke ass'y was missing. It seems that this small piece came off and got sucked in the cylinder head. I pulled the head off and the tried to stroke the bottom end, it runs freely. Thank God.

So I have a Cylinder Head rebuild in my near future!!

Good thing the head should be a very minor job, and hey half the work is already done if you know what the problem is.

yeah, it's always easier when you know the problem! The worst are electrical faults....I never know where to start

I have found the best way to approach an electrical problem is to start at the least expensive part to replace, and go from there. If you don't have any spark, change the plug...then the plug boot...then swap in a spare coil to see if the original is bad...same deal with the CDI box, swap in a spare good one...and that leaves the high-ticket stator assembly for last.
