Motor thoughts

I'm looking for a motor that will hold me over while i piece together a legit setup. I want to know which knock off motor you recommend? Something with few mods to make it a decent runner its going to be used for cruising at high speeds. Is the yx160 the best option? Or is it the lifan 150. Tell me your thoughts an mods to make it a decent pinger. I want something that will last after i put together a decent motor i want to transfer this knock off to my next project.
Thanks for comment!

Re: Motor thoughts

IMSLTHO, also the Lifan 150 seems to be the best option, especially if the "legit" mill is Honda-based. Lots of mods available, reliable, and a good runner.

Re: Motor thoughts

is the YX not all what its cracked up to be? FATKAT posted 85mph on a V2, BBK, an a few other mods. Will the 150 ever be capable of this? is the reliability hands down lifan 150?

His run was downhill if I recall correctly and you are comparing a $550 motor to a >$1500 172cc mill. I had the Lifan 150 and really liked it.

Personally I have no clue what the top speeds are on my bikes. I gear them for around town not the salt flats...

wasn't it downhill with a tail wind and leaning forwards for better arrow dynamics?

Re: Motor thoughts

In the end the choice is ultimatly up to you. I just see more Lifans out there than yx160s, so I figure parts availability would be easier with a Lifan engine.

Re: Motor thoughts

Everything I have heard of the lifan 150's is that they are damn quick. I would love to see what your legit motor is if a lifan 150 or yx160 is your hold you over motor. Lifan 150's are a complete copy of a daytona motor and they seem to hold up well. 150cc, "special" clutch, and outer rotor kit. I would throw a flat slide carb on it and rip.

Re: Motor thoughts

Lifan, they seem to have good quality control or as good as can be expected. The bolts they come with are somewhat crummy though, and of course they use glue instead of a real loctite. Can be made into screaming beast monsters though or so I have heard, but by that time all you are left with is a case and some internal gears.

Re: Motor thoughts

well when i say yx bore kits i mean 170, 184, 192 cc bore kits i don't think any other engines other than YX's and the z155 accept the kits due to stroke and wrist pine size and stud spacing i could be wrong there maybe others...oh i think the gpx 125 accepts them too or has some big bore kits of it's own.

now the lifan125 it doesn't a whole for hop up parts, and the lifan150 i don't know of any big bore kits other than boring the cyl a few MMs and getting a nice akunar psiton wich as much as you can due for the lifan125 for big bore. i know you can getsome cams and a TB import head for the lifna125 as well.

the z motor accepts many TB , takagawa , kitaco kits for YX and KLX/DRZ 110
so theres alot of performance AND rebuild options

lifan 150 is a very strong motor
but limited to aftermarket and oem parts

another very similar option were haveing great luck wth is this 150cc
alot of aftermarket / oem parts are avalible and it a strong runner

Hey! That's my motor and my bike! That YX 150 does make great power and has held up great so far! With the right gearing and a decent pipe its getting my 215 lbs to 65mph and a nice 55mph cruise speed all day long! Best part is it has a oil filter which is important to me!

Re: Motor thoughts

It is, congrats man! the one good thing about the yx aftermarket is if you decide it isn't enough power you can always get the big bore kits.
