I am saving up for the Takegawa 125cc DOHC kit but with the DOHC kit, I also need to upgrade the clutch and make it a 5 speed bike.

My monkey is 85cc at the moment. It is a 85cc kit, put together by my local bike shop. The shop are offering to remodify the engine to 125cc. The shop is asking me to dyno my bike now, when it is 85cc and to dyno it again, when it is at 125cc to see the difference but I am worry the DIY kit by my local shop, wont offer as much hp compare to just a 106cc kit from Takegawa... The local shop is asking $300 for the upgrade and since the $300 still sound affordable. I might just give the DIY kit a try...

Re: My 2000 Anniversary Monkey

Well in the long run takegawa is good quality and i bet the dohc is more hp than the local shop. so how big is the moneky/mini bike scene over there in Taiwan? I'v heard around here on these forums that the 100cc ape is better and it has longer frame perhaps they have big bore kits for the ape 50?

The Mini bike scence at my local country is very small. There is probably about 50-100 Honda Monkey in the country and only about 20-30 are road register. Since it cost a fortune to regsiter them on road ($5000 is what it will cost to get them road compliance in my country).

The 100cc Ape is a better bike in that it is more affordable to tune up. Buying a 115cc Takegawa kit will only set you back about 40,000-50,000 Yen.

For the 50cc Ape, there is only the option of 88cc and 125cc upgrade.. So the cost of the 125cc upgrade will be around 120,000 Yen and the cost of the 88cc at around 40,000 Yen, therefore it will cost more if the owner of the 50cc Ape is looking for a high hp upgrade. Also, with the 125cc upgrade there would also be clutch, oil cooler and a whole buch of other things that will have to be included into the tuning for the bike to be tune to its best. So in the long run people just buy the Ape 100cc and it will be cheaper to tune it up to 115cc.

I have withness a 115cc Takegawa Ape, that can out run a CB400 on the mountain road. They are fast....

Re: My 2000 Anniversary Monkey

is there a 125 upgrade for the ape 100 as well as the ape 50? I guess the 125cc upgrade is really really fast, minus the stability due to the smaller frame? are your guy's license plates the same size as the US's? i still like your ape any future upgrades? The ape 50 needs love too.

There are 125cc upgrade for both the 100cc Ape as well as the 50cc Ape. The smaller frame wont be any problem with the 20hp that the 125cc motor will produce since there is not that much of a difference in the size of the frame.

My plan now is to either to sell the 50cc Ape and upgrade to a 100cc Ape and than start with that platform. The other option is to buy the 125cc upgrade for the 50cc Ape and also all the other parts like clutchs, oil cooler, gauges, etc etc..

For now the plan is to finialise the Monkey before I start on the Ape. I want to make the Ape 125cc and looking like a mini CB1300 but it will be another one of my long term project.....

Yes, in Japan a lot of companys have body kits for Apes. Kitaco make them but they not the best looking... There are even NSR and NSF body kits for the Ape.

Over, takegawa, kitaco etc. also have ape stuff. (kitaco even has a 145cc kit)

Lol Brad, you should visit Taipei again sometime soon. Most foreigners stay away from the Stinky Tofu, glad that you gave it a try

Thanks Eddie I am using a MRP steering stem and RPM front shock absorber. Since the RPM front shock was ment to be run with drum brakes only. The RPM shock absorber I have on my bike, I have modded it to fit parts from the Honda Dio front shock absorber, so I can use the front disk brake set up with it

Never seen or heard of them before, but they look good.

What kind of gearing are you running on your monkey to top out at 70mph?

Forgot to mention. The top part that is got the OEM color from the bike, That part is my old front shock. I have cut it up and insert it into the new RPM shock to make my bike look more OEM
