My Mood: | My First Z50! Don't laugh...... :)
For Some weird Reason I Wanted a Z50 even though I dont know anything about them. I Put a Ad up on my Local craigslist looking for a roller or basket case z50 and a fellow about 30 miles aways had it for sale. It's for the most part complete and I got a ton of extra parts with it. Its a 1978 model that was made in 7/77 I Assume the tank and seat are wrong... It looks rough....But I love it! |

Thanks everybody! It is stripped down to the frame and ready to go off to powdercoat.. All the brake hardware is in the box. It was fun riding it around to the back of my house. Feet just dont make good brakes in the wet grass. The Only thing the bike is missing is the headlight and some little stuff. Is the tank and seat wrong for the 1978 model year? Not that I Care... Just Wondering... |

That really is in better shape than alot out there. 78' was the last year with that tank/seat combo so yes that is the right tank and seat. Z50s are probally the best mini and you will have loads of fun on it.

My Mood: | Re: My First Z50! Don't laugh...... :) Thanks! The Splines are ok. Its just one goofed engine. No compression and it looks to have been exposed to the elemenst for a bit. I have Another honda 49cc and I have a Lifan 110cc I might just shoe horn into it. |

How much? If you don't mind me asking, I am looking, leaning towards a Hooper Imports, as most of the parts will be there. But a nice used one may make more sense, Nice Score

Congratulations! Oh, you're going to know this thing real well before you're done... The carb & intake is off of CT70 hence no air filter (moves carb too high, may make setting it up a nightmare - have a look on the top left hand side of the cylinder, does it say 72cc or 49cc?), rear shocks are inverted and the front fork bushings are toast. PS, don't laugh my tank and fenders are way rougher than yours! Last edited by LoudFastUgly; 01-09-2009 at 10:03 PM. |

I know what you mean about the "some strange reason I wanted a Z" part. I think a Z50 is the most efficient device ever for converting 2 hp to idiotic, grinning, unself-conscious behavior in adult males. Heck, even my wife grins and lets her dork radar slip a little when she rides my Z, and she's cool; just ask her. Your bike is like the first Z I ever rode; my neighbor had a '78 forever. It's a worthy machine of fixing up. Tank and seat look right to me. Paint's a little thin, maybe...originally it was red, with some decals. Have fun! Keep posting photos as you work! |

I Paid $200 for this bike. I Was happy to spend it. I will resto mod this one and come spring I will most Likely get a Lifan lf50 version of this bike simply because I just want one and it looks a little different than this bike. Just get what you want and can afford. Its going to take a bunch of money to get this one back in like new shape, there's no doubt about it. Fortunately I have access to a Bunch of equipment and it really has helped keep the cost down with my Vintage bike hobby. BTW If you look around you can find the Knock off for under $1000 I think the only ones being right now made are the Lifan's and they are very nice little bikes. Not as Nice as my Beater though!!!! As for what's been done to My 1978 so far. The bike got completely tore down last night and the Exhaust, frame, swingarm, footpegs and rear brake pedal all got beadblasted today.. If I can con my buddy into powder coating them they should be done this week. I'll need new forks , handlebars and a manual..... And also a Bunch time just figuring out what I don't have. I'll post some pics tonight. Again... thanks everyone for the compliments. BTW.....My wife says to me this morning after I Read some of the Compliments... "I think its still ugly............ I can ride it though right?.." LOL! She's a weirdo! I love her! | |

Score! It's ugly, but most of it looks like it will clean up nicely. A headlight, a little paint, a seat cover, and some nuts/bolts/TLC, and you'll be platinum. If it's a '78, the forks are the correct color. You can also straighten & paint the fenders to match and be correct for a '78 model. Easy fixer. The tank graphics are available for $20 or less. |

Funny, I've heard an expression a lot like that before, except it was about pizza. I agree, though. |
