| My opportunity to own a '71 Trail 70
Ok so the CFO of the company I work for saw me looking at some pics of mini bikes at work one day and now he wants to sell me his Trail 70. He wants $1200 for it and I told him there's no way I could come up with that much, so he offered to do payroll deduction of about $50 every 2 weeks. Do you guys think this is worth $1200? I haven't seen it in person, but it looks pretty clean and I have been dreaming about having a CA street legal mini. Oh yeah I think he said the headlight dosent work... It's not a '71 model. It might have been made in'71 but it is a '72 model, you can tell by the front forks. 1972 was the only year those front forks looked like that. Here's a '71 model. The '69 thru '71 models looked like this. See the different front forks? It could be a '71 model that was rebuilt from '72 model parts because it does have the older '69 thru '71 headlight speedometer combo. Last edited by Long Crapper; 09-25-2008 at 03:56 PM. |

I'm not going to say it's not worth $1200 but know what you are getting. It looks like it started as a K1 with some K0 parts. It is not likely an un-restored original bike. I know it's just a picture but the red color doesn't look correct. The headlight/speedo and taillight is from a K0. The seat cover, muffler guard, and side badges are not original for a K1. It is CA legal which I hear can be a pain. Payment plan is a plus. |

This guy's selling price is for a very good to excellent condition (unrestored) original. If you still want it, bring these points up and try to talk him down. Blue Book Values for a 1972 K1 Model | |

Good info guys! I'm glad I have PM to refer to when I am uninformed. Yeah the guy said he bought it for $1000 in the begining of the summer, and put a few hundred into it. And that an old shoulder injury acts up every time he rides it. I'm still going to have to think about it, but my main concerns are that it is street legal and the payments. I'm so sick of paying for gas all the time and we just mounted a 1 speed 2 stroke 80 motor to my friends beach cruiser, so now I need something |
