Need some help with my setup

Ok guys need some help and advice, have taken the low rider chaly for a couple of shake down runs and it appears to be running very rich and bogging pretty badly to the point of stoping just down the road. Could not start it up again!! Checked plug and it was black and a little wet with fuel, was a brand new one and had only gone down the road once before and a few starts in the garage etc.. on tickover. New plug in and started up straight away again.

Setup:

Takky 124cc Superhead
Takky VM26 standard jetting, with stack and gauze no filter
NGK CR7HSA plug
Yoshi Tri oval exhaust
Kitaco Coil
Takky CDI
Mixture screw 1.5 turns out
Needle in middle clip

Needs choke to start up and then appears to idle ok, quik blip of the throttle will make it bog and stall.

Whats your thoughts??

Cheers,

Victor

Whats the standard jetting you are using? Main and pilot sizes?

Sounds like it may be running on the overly rich side.

Re: Need some help with my setup

Brad,

How ya doing mate, been doing some long hours so will get the carb out tomorrow and have a look at the jets.

I do know that as soon as I put a new plug in it started up first time and ticks over sweet as a nut, but as soonas you try to rev it, just bogs to the point of stalling???

I had a right game getting the VM26 to fit in the frame, had to have a 40mm high carb spinner made to elevate it for clearance, do you reckon this could be the problem??

Any help apprecaited.

Ok checked the carb, a true Takegawa VM26 pull to the side choke, and its as standard 190main 22.5pilot....

Any help, I think the pilot is too big, strange because I ran the exact same carb in my monkey 124+R and it was fine........

Cheers

VIctor

I received a VM26 in the mail completely seperately from my kit. I'm running the 124+r kit. It actually came without any jetting in it at all. Without any prior knowledge to what complete kits comes with with, I ended up with 22.5/190 jetting with the original s12 camshaft. So, it seems that Takegawa and I are on the same page for this motor. I am running the mixture screw 1 turn out.

However, I am running the needle one clip rich and it seems to like that.

What cam are you running in the superhead? My guess is that your pilot will need to come down to a 20...and to get your main, you'll need to do plug chops. I personally like to start low and work high...So, put a 150 in and run it. Then a 160, 170. And when you install one where it bogs on the high end, put the previous one back in.

Re: Need some help with my setup

Fatcaaat,

Yeah 22.5/190 was what I have in the monkey 124+R running an S35 cam, 1.5 turns out on the mixture screw.

Have spoken to MBUK, I'm in the UK, and they recommend coming down on the pilot also, have ordered some up and a couple of smaller mains.

Out of interest what plug do you run in the 124+R?

9 series iridium plug by NGK. I don't know the exact number it is.
