New gas tank for late model Z50R bikes

I was looking for a cheap alternative to purchasing a honda gas tank for my 89 z50r project, and found this link to a clone tank for about $50. I have not seen it in person, but the price is right if you need one of these as bad as I do.

If you look at the "cub" bike they sell, it is a clone of the late model Z50R. I specifically e-mailed them to confirm they had one, and "hopefully" they were being truthful with me. If it fits their cub model, it should be close enough for my project.

I don't know if the tank has the cub logo on it, but if so, it should not be that hard to remove, or repaint to match my scratched up plastics!

The hooper one should be a direct replacement - I have one - All the plastics on this bike are from hooper

I bought a set of Fenders off of Hoopers and they are pretty decent quality, the tanks I would assume would be the same

Did the gas cap come with it (I forgot to ask them) or does the stocker fit? How about the petcock? More just curious, as I have good stock ones.

Also, I see your bike has lights and blinkers - did you add those later? Is yours street tagged?

Appreciate any answers on the above.

Mine is actually a Lifan bike - signals wer on it - I can register it but have been sorting out some motor issues so I haven't done it yet.

No cap or petcock were included

Got the Tank today

Well - Hooper shipped this thing really fast. Well packed and arrived in perfect shape. The quality seems really nice and I cannot tell the difference between it and the old, except it's not rusty, dented or in need of repainting! Off to Fast Fifties for some graphics!

Especially when I got it in my hands for under $60! The Honda tank lists around $250 - if you can find one, or if you go through Monkeybike UK it is more than that, but it does have the "baja" logo on it..

Hey Wreck - I see you have the tank I have (from Hooper). The cap and petcock are different than my original Honda. Where did you get your cap and petcock?

I'm going through the the same issue with my "knock off" tank right now. Based on what I can find, the petcocks and caps are unique to the Jincheng/Panda/etc. tanks. I have a brand new cap with the nipple for the vent hose that I'm not going to use since I'm building more of a street bike. I'm going to order the locking gas cap and petcock from retrobikes.com. I would just order from hooper, but they don't list the petcock. You can have my "dirt" cap if you want it and are willing to pay the shipping. Just PM me your address.

They fit right on mine - My bike is a Lifan not a real Honda

Just call Hooper if there is something you need that isn't on the site, He'll take care of you.

I just called Hooper and he wasn't sure if they stock the petcocks. He asked that I email the part inquiry so he could forward it to the warehouse people. He said that if they do have it, he'll post the part on the website. I'll post the results when I find out something.

My earlier comment about ordering from retrobikes was a bust, they don't stock the locking gas caps

I just got a reply from Hooper. They added the petcock to their website here and do have it in stock:

Here are links to both cap and petcock. Not cheap, but still quite a bit cheaper than going with all Honda stuff.

I kind of thought the same thing. When I contacted them about the part and they added it to the website, I was surprised that it is more than half of the tank price. All in all it's still a good deal though.

Makotosun,

Do you want the dirtbike style cap that I have? It's never been used and it'll save you some money over buying a new one.

Actually, the tank may be going on a street legal build, so I already ordered the keyed cap. How much do you want for the off-road cap - I still might be interested.

ive got a similar petcock if somebody wants to buy it, doesent have the filter though, i think its 1/2 inch or something, bigger than a normal z50 thread anyway, pm me if interested

heres the link to what i got;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

edit: oh yeah the info about the petcock fitting those z50 models on the ebay page is rubbish, some sellers have no idea what they're selling
