OK so tonight i did the swing arm i did some measuring and i needed to remove 5.5mm from the inside on both sides totaling 11mm cut away. the brake stay i made from solid round stock and it was 1 1/2 inches long. i ran into one problem - zb wheel is too wide for the xr80 swing arm i think I'm going to use z50 wheels. do i go with stockers' and go black with the red like i was going to with the ZB's OR do i use a set of chrome z 50 wheels i had laying around?? staying cheeeeeppp ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Go with the chrome - it's still cheap if you already have them on the shelf! Looking forward to your build, as I am getting ready to do many of those same mods to my Panda, including the ZB forks. |

(with the zb rear wheel spacer) only 1.875" too wide huh? maybe you could turn the cush drive area of the hub down and have a plate welded on to accept crf50 sprockets. check out my z50, i ran zb50 wheels and front end. 1quikzb has zb50 wheels on his "zbx." if the tires were a little better i would uby those zb wheels off you for a spare set.

made some more progress today. got the forks on, had to grind off where the steering lock goes. other then that they went right on used the ZB bearings and everything. the rear shocks are giving me a problem. the swing arm is wider where the shocks mount so they are on an angle. will this work? i feel like they will bind up. ***the shocks on it are just for show. i will not be using them*** the next problem is that the zb wheel doesn't fit in the back and the Z50 wheel doesn't fit in the front. im going to the local machine shop to figure out what i can make work. i would cut/grind myself but i want this to ride right at high speed on the street. not that a stock 70 motor will go fast but you never know what motor i will end up with in this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

So what year xr75/80 swingarm will work? I know it will require modding it. What shock are you using? Could you mesure from the top of the forks to the axle? |

i saw that bike with the welds. i was trying to avoid doing that but i may end up doing it. its a 79 or 80 xr80 swingarm. the shocks in the pictures are from mid 70's early 80's cb750 i think but im not sure. the forks from top of triple to axle are 21 5/8th inchs |

Hmm - Do you know approximately how much will need to be turned down? I would like to be able to still run the speedo, so that could be an issue. I don't think the rest will be that difficult. I was hoping to keep the speedo drive, but now that I held the ZB fork up to the Panda front end, it looks to be a LOT of metal to remove. Possibly some of the removal could come off the inner side of the fork, but I'll need to do more looking at that. FYI, it appears the width between the legs on the ZB forks is the same as on the CT70 hubs, so that may also be an option for you if you want to go with 10" wheels. The distance from the bottom of the CT triple to the axle is also the same as the ZB forks, though they are shorter from there to the top, to fit the Z50 headtube. The CT rear brake could also use the stock brake rod off of the XR80 I believe. CT hubs would appear to be direct bolt on. Back to the drawing board for me now. |
