Trying to get my neighbor's 87 Z50 to run. Has no spark when you ground the plug to the head and kick it. What do I check first?

check all the grounds. pull off the magneto cover and take a look at the magneto.

Is the run switch on?

Check the plug, the ground, make sure its on run, Make sure the plug cap is connected well..

If the bike has been sitting for a considerable amount of time, the first thing to do is change the points, and make sure they are set properly.
