I only know of one brand of O-Ring chain in 420 pitch, and it's freaking expensive. As I'm racing, I'm opting for the lightest chain I can, and just planning on replacing it more often.

No, I don't know anyone who runs O-rings in the dirt.

Just keep it lubed, no need to lose performance from a heavier chain and the absorption of shock from the o-rings.
Good 420 chain with good maintenance lasts a very long time at the power levels of these bikes anyway.
Essentially I vote for non O-ring.

what about for street bikes that run at 50mph + for as many as 50 miles?

I know the o rings are ment to hold the wax in the links of the chain. I just think that a non o ring would be bad for long high speed runs.

Who needs it? I rank Regina chains no. 1 if you don't mind spending the bucks.

I have been running my TTR with a DID420 gold non 0-ring for about a month now, wide open 15-20 miles a day. And it has been holding up great. Use Silkolene Pro Chain on it and you would be fine.

maybe not necessary... but neither is a radial mount Brembo... hehe.

I say get the O-Ring and not have to be concerned with it.

I would not personally run an o-ring chain on a 50. Yes they last longer but thier rolling resitance is why I wouldn't do it. These motors put out very little HP so every little bit matters. I haven't seen a 420 o-ring but I know you can feel the difference on the 520 o-rings. Just by spinning the back wheel when it is off the ground.

The o-ring chains have sealed greese in the links but you still have to lube them for the outer links. But in all my years of riding I have never had to replace a O-ring chain they last forever. So everything is a trade off.

true... but in his case... it will be strapped to some crazy ass thing like a 173cc TJR tuned NICE engine if I remember correctly. Doubtful that the resistance will be noticeable.

50 miles should not be a problem on the street, good lube should last double that
