pic of the Z

The rear shock has been sent back to staggs because it stopped rebounding. the front rim is a 12 as well as the back even though it doesnt look that way. I still think im gonna get some clamps made so i can run the z wheels with the snowhogs because thats what a z is all about. for now this works really well. Oh and i dont care about those of you who think i runed it or should have done it this way or that. i like constructive critics but could care less if all your gonna do is bash me because i didnt keep it stock.

I'd like to see a few pics of how you were able to mount a single shock to the Z frame.

Stop worrying about what other people think about YOUR bike. You mod that bike how ever you like. I am a Honda resto guy but also love customizing Z50s. I enjoy building customs more than restoring. Much more satisfying for the soul being creative. Rock that Z how ever you like.

dang? does the top of the head on that shock face backwards?? toward the back??

i do think you are very "creative" with it. i wouldnt do that to my z, but i guess its ok

but i have mine set up for street, so its a diff feeling

what engine and forks are those??

The Z is looking real good. I actually wanted an extended swing arm but couldnt figure out shock placement without cutting the frame. Looks as if youve done it...Good job

well the shock placement was a bit tricky. i thought i could use one of the universal mounts for the xr50 mono shock setup but theres not near enough room at the top of the frame as i thought.what i ended up doing was cutting a hole right in the flat part of the sub frame right behind the gas tank. i then made two brackets and weldedd them to the top of the frame. this meant i had to cut a hole into the bottom of the seat to allow the clearence but i works really well.

to z50 king: yes the shock sits like the aerisol can and the cannister sits to the rear of the bike at the top mount. as for the footpegs i like to mix it up sometimes and try to ride my whole track sitting down with my feet on the motor. it makes for good seatbouncing practice. actually the mount was bent a little so i stuck it on my beater 01xr50 and ordered a heavy duty mount for the z. the forks are 50 caliber with bbr heavy duty xr70 springs and 4oz of 30 weight fork oil (i like to hit big jumps)

oh and its not that im worried about what people think about me or what i do, i just didnt want this thread to become people just bashing eachother over something stupid.

well, geometry in my head says that it works the same as laying it down with the top toward the front, right?? makes sense to me, but may take up more room

yea when i talked to someone about the shock they said it didnt matter how you mounted it. The way i have it worked out fine, but had i known i could have mounted it upside down with the ressi on the bottom i probably would have done that.

very creative! It looks like you should try a 14" wheel on the front. And shorten up the rear brake pedal.

i had a 14" on the front but the front brake wouldnt line up right. i got it on there and hooked up but the wheel didnt spin very well and the brake didnt work that great either. the wheel is off a 70. if i got a 50 hub and spokes to fit to a 14" or used a disc hub and welded a bracket to the fork but i would rather get the z wheels on it i just have to talk to a machine shop.

New triples will be nice. I had a set of Sik50's forks with clamps so I just machined the heck out of the front hub to make it fit.

Looks cool. Make sure to send pics when the fat tires are mounted.

the engine is stock bottom with 88 kit and large port head. i cant remember what the head is off of but i think it was a knock off and only 40 bucks on ebay but it works well and runs pretty good. ive been thinking of buyin the ahp stage 1 engine and then putting this engine in my beater bike. i looked at the lifans and gpx but the article in minimoto said the ahp was better and plus its a honda motor. thoughts?
