| Points and Condenser
I have a feeling that my points and condenser could be shot in my 85 z50. When we first bought the bike, it moved pretty well. Then we had some beginner riders learning how to ride on it and it was never the same. With stock topend in the bike was terribly slow, then I threw a 72cc kit on with an e22 head and it was still slow. Could my points and condensers be shot and I just need to hop on ebay and pick up any kit thats up there or is there one kit that is better than others. Also are there any instruction on how to do this or is it fairly straight forward? |

If it is your condenser and points, hit up Northeast Vintage Cycle at www.hondanuts.com and they have a kit you can purchase that comes with points, condenser and a new spark plug. It may also be your ignition coil, or a bad spark plug boot.

I think I might have a spare sparkplug boot sitting around but had thoughts about the ignition coil. I guess I could get a coil from TB and give that a shot.

Invest in a $20 voltage test meter. It will make tracing your problem very easy if you follow the manual. I got one last year and i use it all the time

99 out of 100 times, you can just replace the points, the condenser very seldom goes bad. No sense in getting involved with re-soldering wires when you don't have to. Just replace the points, and make sure you set them properly.

If anyone has installed new points is this helpful in setting the points? http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...v_1930_1251128 Im unsure of what im suppose to take the gap reading from. Is it the gap when the points open or its it the gap between the points and the stator? |

I set my engine to top dead center and put a .10 feeler gauge between the two contacts on the points and tightned it up. It will snap closed when you remove the feeler gauge but will open back up when you rotate the flywheel to the fire mark
