Predicting problems.....z50

I'm planning on putting my Honda 70cc motor from my ('74) ct70 into my z50 ('73).

I'm sure this has been done a bajillion times! What hitches should I expect?

I'm assuming that I'll need to bring along the ct70 coil in the transplant, right? They are both still 6 volt sytstems. Will the ct70 coil create problems down the road when I try to get the lights firured out on the z50?

One problem that I foresee is the manifold height, I'll buy a different one so the carb. fits beneath the tank of the z50. Would I be better off buying the mutli-position manifold mount?

Any advice is appreciated! Nothing is worse that not having the right parts when you finally have the time to work on these things!

1. You can just use your original Z50 coil, it will work fine.

2. All the wiring is the same, the plug is the same too.

3. Use a ATC70 intake, it fits good with the CT70 carb on the Z50 frame

Hope this info helps you. The increase from a 50cc to 70cc is quite noticeable. Good luck on the build.

Agreed, and also, if you don't have an ATC70 manifold handy and are itchin to get riding, you might try just putting your Z50 intake and carb on the CT head, at least temporarily. Yeah, I know, the port sizes are different and all that, but I took a spin on a friend's hardtail over the summer that was all stock except the motor had been swapped for an early 3-speed CT 70 motor. Stock tiny Z50 carb and exhaust, no rejetting, no exhaust mods, bolted onto a complete CT mill. It was not eager to rev out with that little carb, but it didn't seem stupidly so. It had enough power to put you on your azzzzzz, clearly more than what a stock 50 has. I wasn't able to open it up on a road, but for ripping around in the backyard at 15-20 mph it definitely felt snappier, wheelie-er and torquier.

Right on! That's exactly what I'll have to do. I didn't get around to ordering the new intake yet, so I just have slap the old intake on for now.

Both....thanks for the info.!!!!
