Preformed z50r seat foam?

Anyone know if it is availible? I saw a few minibike seat foams on ebay but couldn't find one for the z50r.

I have a new seat cover coming but my foam is shot.

Just stuff some more cotton balls in there.

If you go to an upholstery shop, they toss away their foam in the dumpsters and you can get a piece for free.

Rather then monkey with a recover, just get a new seat and call it a day. A nice seat makes the bike, and the recovers never look quite right, plus you have to work and paint the pan.

To answer your question, I've never seen the preformed foam for the Z50R's because the seats are pretty cheap.

The new seats I've seen are $100+ shipping and they're black. I really want a blue one with white honda lettering on back because I think it looks a little better than the generic black seats with just the white "z" on the side.

I agree, a good looking seat does make the bike. I guess I'll take it to a local shop and have them put new foam in it and install the cover.

I have to weld in some reinforcements on the rear of the seat pan. You know how they all bend behind the rear mounts? Mine is like that. A poorly designed pan if ya ask me.

hyaha brad you slay me!

When I took the cover off my seat last night I found a stock foam that was missing many chunks. In the place of the missing pieces were red shop rags and wadded up pieces of vinyl upholstry material. No wonder it looked to lame.

Don't try to fix the stock seat. It will cost you more then it's worth, and it still won't look right.

I can probably find you a blue one like you want. However, Your frame is the same as all the Monkey seats, and you have about 300 different kinds to choose from..

Here's a company that does custom seats:

http://cf-posh.com/mg/dress_up/colororder.html

Made to order in any color that you want.. Can get purple if you want it.

I prefer the standard TL seat on the 1979 and newer bikes, and they look and feel really nice.

Good info Dan... but... I already bought the cover on ebay. Now, I'm commited to making the stock seat look right again.

Don,

Maybe you need to slow down a little bit and think things through before you rush out and purchase things. Your stock seat has a broken pan and is going to need to be repaired and repainted and now you have to have a shop mold foam for you and install an aftermarket seat cover?

That sounds like a mess to me. I've been through all that BS 15 years ago... Trust me, some things are just easier buying new when it's available as it can be cheaper in the long run, the parts look and function better and it takes less time and headaches.

You are older then I am, but your purchase habits are of a 15 year old kid the day after christmas... Don't get me wrong, your antics are entertaining...

My bike was involved in a fire (previous owner so don't go slamming me about it). That's why there was black tape on the seat when I got it. There were no tears, only holes burnt through the cover into the foam. Fortunately, not much of the faom was burnt so a new cover fixed the issues. Man! Loking at this picture reminds me of the hole in the previous exhaust. Look at the frame under the seat. See the black powder? This picture was taken after I cleaned the area with acetone and it was still there.

Before.

After.

My Mood: Amused
I bought a blue cover for mine from ebay and foam from an upolstery shop but it didn't quite look right. I ended up putting the stock foam back in and it looks much better.

No, I like the look of the 1980 Z50R. The 1984 model is not as attractive.
