rear shocks 72 z50

Do they come apart?

With the top bushings out I can see where the shaft screws into the top aluminum piece.

At this point there is a black plastic sleeve covering the shaft so I can't lock on to it to try to unscrew the top of the shock.

you have to compress the spring and sleeve so you can get a wrench on the nut to unscrew the bottom from the top piece. I used a bench vise and a piece of wood
