| Removing heavy carbon buildup from pipe?
Any Ideas on how to remove carbon and oil buildup from the inside of an oem exhaust pipe? I've thought about super heating it with a torch, but I'd like input first. Thanks folks, Rob. |

put some gas in it and shake it around? that should melt the oil out. then you could let it dry out for a day or something and heat it up to burn out the carbon

Apply heat. When the metal's just about glowing the carbon/oil squizz burns off inside. Lots of foulness comes out the ends and sometimes does entertaining resonant combustion when the vapors ignite. It smells really terrible. Great fun. Do you have an oxyacetylene torch? This makes it much faster...use the cutting tip but don't press the cutting lever, obviously, or use a rosebud tip...doing it with a plumber's torch might get it done, but it will take some time at best. I always used an oxyacetylene rig. |
