| Setting a bike up for street
Since I have been banned from all my local trails, I am now confined to the streets. My bike is kind of set up for dirt right now. What modifications/adjustments should I make/buy to make my bike better on the street? I know only one thing for sure, and that's tires. This is my bike as of about 3 minutes ago. What should I change? ![]() ![]() |

I don't ride at night. Are lights necessary?

Ide look to install a headlight, horn and mirrors if your going to be rocking it on the street. |

Street tires also work better in the turns on the asphalt.

Yeah, you want to be as visible as possible to all the road traffic. Lights are a good thing. Mirrors are nice so you don't have to keep looking behind you. Why can't you ride the trails anymore? |

I was riding and saw a new notice on a tree. It said no motorized vehicles. And this was an awesome trail. it had about 11 miles total and a couple of loops I could ride all day. There was mud, dust, tight stuff, speed sections, up and down hill, it was a really nice trail. But they have put up new legislation so I am stuck on pavement.

I kept riding for a little while, but then we got a notice in the mail saying if I was seen again the Home Owner's Association would fine us and my dad said I'd have to pay it. I think I'll look into some lights and a horn and mirrors. I already have a 6V lighting coil. So I'll need a regulator and the rest of the stuff.

If you have a lighting coil the rest is pretty simple. Get a wiring harness from a z50 with lights, a ct70 or one of the chinese aftermarket ones. You can probably get what you need from DR ATV or NE cycle. Your bike will be a lot safer with some lighting, as other vehicles will see you better. You still gotta be really proactive to be safe, and assume the other vehicle does NOT see you until you know otherwise. Then, once you get it a bit safer on road, you can ride farther and find some new trails! It sounds like your problem is not the laws, but the homeowner association. They can only manage property under their control. You just gotta find some other place that people aren't so uptite. Good luck. |

Are you going to ride your z on public streets? Unless you are of age and have that z tagged and registered or whatever you need to do to ride legally in your state, you'll have more trouble with the police than your Home Owner Association.

10" wheels and street tires, headlight, tailight, horn. Maybe an upgraded front suspension too.

The laws are such that it is possible for me to ride in my county on small roads up to 45 MPH. But I can't leave the county. But yes. I'll look into some of that road stuff.

That's good Q. I would suggest checking out what exactly your mini needs, equipment/parts-wise, to be legally ridden by you on your county roads.

| Re: Setting a bike up for street I dunno Q, I'm having a hard time believing that an unlicensed person can legally ride a non road legal minibike on a public road ...anywhere in the USA.

I only ride tracks now. No more streets around here in SoCal. The cars are out to get you. I have had a street license for 35 years. No more street bikes for me. But if thats all you have then do it but do it right go to the DMV and find out what you need to be on the streets.Have fun

I really am in a kind of motorcycle depression. I still love riding my Z, but there nowhere to ride it. I really enjoyed the trails. I found some really nice ones. But then I was not allowed there any more. So I don't really like the streets. I like an occasional grocery run for my parents or a trip to the gas station for gas, but I don't like the street only. So I don't know what I am going to do. I want a 150R, but my dad says no to that. I can't really do anything that I enjoy now. I don't want to get rid of my mini though. I almost feel like I want to just store it for a long while. Unless I make some drastic changes that make it faster or more fun to ride, I don't know what I'll do. I think I'll put the Sta-Bil in the tank and put a blanket over it for a while until I find some fun riding areas. I'll explore the woods some more on my MTB.

Even in town i think anything less than an 88cc just isn't fast enough to pull out and keep up with traffic safely because even at a 25mph speed limit everybody goes at least 10mph over. | |
