| This should make it rev faster. Should I do it?
I think, okay, I know that if I grind down the plastic on the throttle tube it will turn farther. I don't know if it will rev too high. If I grind down about a millimeter of the part shown in red, will it overrev and do unwanted things? |

Check to see if the slide is opening fully first AFTER making sure your cable is adjusted properly. If it's not, grind the tube slightly. Opening the slide past the point where the back orifice is fully exposed won't get you anything.

first adjust your throttle cable correctly, then take your air filter off and hold the throttle open. if the slide goes all the way up then cutting the tube will make no difference. you shouldnt have to cut it though... ^^^you must have beat me by seconds^^^ |

I know the throttle is adjusted correctly. I am an adjustment freak. So I'll check if the slide goes up all the way. I'm sure that someone later is going to say just adjust the cable so it pulls it farther. Well whoever you are, that won't work because it will make the engine idle higher. I want to have a wider speed range, not just higher. And thank you for the VERY fast replies. P.S. I mean REALLY fast. |

In order to have the throttle actuate the slide as soon as you begin to twist it, any plastic you remove from the tube will have to be adjusted accordingly in the cable. The slide will not pull up any farther in the carb throat just because the tube has a wider range of travel. Think of it this way: If you grind off a 1/4" off the tube stop, that is the same as adding a 1/4" onto the other end of the cable, which means you now have an extra 1/4" of slack that will need to be adjusted out, in order to have the throttle pull as soon as you twist it. You may run out of adjustment before you can take up the extra slack. |

That would be right if I ground off the part that stops the throttle from going down more. When the engine is idling, the red part never touches anything. I am raising the cieling, not lowering the floor. I understand what you are getting at, but that won't happen if I grind down the part I'm planning. You would be right I planned on grinding this part. But I'm not. Last edited by arlindsay1992; 05-30-2006 at 05:41 AM. |

It doesn't matter what or where you grind off, it still doesn't change things inside the carb throat. You will still have the same restriction inside due to spring and slide being in the same position when you open the throttle all the way. The slide and spring will not pull up any further, regardless of whether you can twist the throttle tube 360 degrees around the handlebars. Just because you have the room at the throttle tube end to turn it 180 degrees doesn't mean you are going to pull the throttle slide up any higher inside the carb; the variables at that end of the cable have not changed.
