So I rebuilt the carb, replaced and gapped the points

and my new CT70 fired up and immediately blew the spark plug out of the head.

It was funny for a couple of minutes, and then I tried to put the plug back in. At least I know it will run.

Who makes a 10mm x 1 pitch spark plug insert in an 11mm length? None of the local auto parts places stock them, and the bike shops were all closed today. Any clue?

That sucked! Wish I could help you on the insert, but don't know. Hope it works out.

Re: So I rebuilt the carb, replaced and gapped the points

It'll really suck if I can't find an insert. I have a few extra 70 heads lying around, but I damn sure don't want to disassemble a running engine.

A good bike shop can install a time-sert without any disassembly.

I bookmarked that site earlier, but it was too late to call them. I'll try Fastenal and some of the local bike shops tomorrow. If they don't have them, I'll use your link. Probably won't be a bad idea to keep a few on hand.

Previous owner stripped it out and all the threads are gone. The bike had a new spark plug in it, so the guy had to know. That's probably why he was in such a hurry to sell it.

Once I just took a head out to the next biggest sparkplug at 12mm. You can buy the plug with the proper reach.

Most any machine shop will have the thread insert you need.

I got a PM about that too. The hole is already at 11 mm, so I may go that route.

All I need now is a 12mm x 1.0 tap.

OUCH.

Ordered a 10mm metric kit from Time-sert.

It was only $100 shipped.

Now you can repair all your friends heads too ! Be sure and do it with both valves closed and the piston part way down the cylinder. Use lots of grease on the tap to minimize chips going in the cylinder.

I was planning to run a vacuum next to the plug hole while tapping, but the grease idea is sheer genius.
