| Some help on street legal minis
I posted in the intro section, but no one responded. I was looking to get a ruckus, but they are so expensive that I'd rather get a little project mini, but I want to make sure it is street legal. Was wondering which bikes I should be looking to get? Want something more then 50cc's for sure. I went to a TR meet and saw someone roll up on their yamaha street bike....and i fell in love. looking to get something similar. thanks for the info in advance. Found a 1977 Honda MR Elsinore for sale for $750..worth it? I use to own an elite 80, but recently sold it..looking for something with the same CC's but a mini instead..thanks. here's a pic of the ct.. Last edited by Dj Hunny; 07-11-2008 at 11:52 AM. |

Welcome to pm Dj Hunny. I just wrote a whole paragrah about the CT70 before you edited your post, lol. Anyways, are you looking for any mini that's street legal (knockoff) or does it have to be a honda? |

| Re: Some help on street legal minis I'm sorry, i changed it because the CT70 i saw, was actually a ST70..not sure of the diff...and it doesn't have to be honda..just anything street legal with plenty of an aftermarket parts. Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawa...i want something similar looking to that..i'm going to try to find a pic of the yamaha that came out to the totalruckus meet that i saw..totally loved it! Oh, and i dont want to spend too much on it either..which im sure goes for everyone.

Yeah, I was riding the black honda crf50. I was there with my buddy and he had the monkey bike. Our bikes were right next to each other, hahaha... What's your budget? And, does it have to seat 2 people? |

The least expensive and least troublesome way to get a street legal monkey bike here in the states I believe is to buy a knockoff and swap out the parts. You can pick up a used one for around $400-$800, and a new 125cc for around $200-$400. Here's some threads I pulled up for you... OH ow, thanks so much! i looked through each one. you said you have a crf50 that's street legal, that's the type of bike i want. how do you go about making it street legal? and did you mod yours to make it more then 49cc? i've read about a lot of ppl converting it to a 88cc kit. Sorry for all the questions, i'm not sure if i even posted in the right section, but i figured you guys would know more about street legal mini dirt bikes so yeah. something like the one in the background here: Last edited by Dj Hunny; 07-11-2008 at 02:55 PM. |

If you want one of the bike similar to the Monkey, I have a lead on two of them locally. They're $750-$800. Mine is called a Gorilla because of the diff tank and seat which is interchangeable with the Monkeys, Pandas, Funriders. Mine was a Panda from the factory. Keep in mind, you can buy a Chinese engine for these (and the CRF50s) which are 125cc for about $250 and it'll do 50+ out of the box with stock exhaust. Yes, CRF50s are much more expensive. I know of one for sale for $2400. I know of more expensive ones too. Last edited by shw911; 07-11-2008 at 04:27 PM. |

BTW, the Elsinore doesn't have much on the aftermarket department.

and also eddie, i get it..so the crf50 were street legal until 2004 when the law changed and you can no longer make them street legal? correct. thanks so much for the info... i will be looking for a honda monkey then or something similar. and if i can upgrade the engine to run faster then 50cc...then that's what i want. | |
