I got a repro speedo drive for my 74 z50 and it runs backwards. Is there a way to disassemble the drive and fix this? It looks like it was assembled wrong because the threaded end for the cable is on the opposite side as the original. I think everything is press-fit but I don't know. Any help is greatly appreciated,

You'll need to swap the whole wheel around (180 degrees - will then be rotating in the opposite direction),
and swap the fork legs to suit the the front drum brake

Thats definitely an interesting solution!!! But I'd like to know how to change the drive unit so It works properly.

Just swap the primary drive gears for a chain and sprockets.

Why not just buy the correct unit and unload that one to someone else?

I thought the guy's question seemed reasonable, and the cryptic smartass answers were unwarranted. Nothing wrong with saying, "Gee, I've not run across that problem before, and I don't know the answer" or something similar.

The correct answer is the chinese unit is made to run on the right side as you sit on the bike for chinese front ends with a disc brake that runs on the left.

It won't work for his application and he needs to replace this with a new Honda unit that runs between $45-$50.

Where do I get the honda one? I got the chinese one because I couldn't find an oem.

Good job Dan! I am HondaZriders nabe and saw his frustration after spending a day making a nice mount and getting it all in order just to find out that the Chinese work backwards....
